View Full Version : Forgot how to SLEEP

Can anyone help me? I haven't been able to sleep for days... I used to be on trazedone for sleep, and now I just can't sleep hardly at all. Nothing seems to help. I try listening to soothing music, I try to meditate, I pray, I avoid all caffeine ... I am getting desperate.
I am off all narcotics and alcohol, so that is not an option, and I cannot take melatonin, since I have a reaction to it. Has anyone ever experienced this? I have been off methadone for almost 8 months, and this is the worst it has been since I was detoxing. Sometimes I don't sleep all night, and only catch a few hours in the morning. It makes me crazy.
Any suggestions?

Unforunately, I don't have any suggestions other than you WILL get back to normal. Just keep on doing what you are doing and you will be normal again. I read somewhere on this board that 8 months was the turn around month for someone coming off of methadone.

How have you been doing other than the sleep? Are you saying that you've been able to sleep but now you can't?

Alissa, hang in there, as I know what you are going through. Personally, I slept 2 hrs on Friday night, 1 hr on Sat., 2 on Sunday, and a whopping 5 1/2 last night. I was restless and irritated that I couldn't sleep, which only made falling asleep more difficult. I am taking 50 mg of Trazodone, which seems to get me to nod off, but if I wake for any reason, I stay awake. Surprisingly, I am not tired, even after these short nights of sleep, so I am doing my best to get out of bed if I am not asleep, and get on with the day. Reading will usually make you tired, so try that. G

Hi Alissa,

How come your not taking trazadone anymore? I take it to help me sleep as well and it's an antidepressent with a sedative effect. It is not considered an addictive drug.

Alissa,
Doesn't this sleep thing just SUCK???I read your reply to me on my thread, and it sounds like we ARE experiencing similar things.I, too have tried everything, not wanting to have to take a pill to go to sleep, but have ended up relying on meletonin(which you said you can't take)/Now, it seems to make me feel more and more hungover each day,so lastnight I decided I would try other techniques to try and go to sleep.RRRIIIGGGHHHTT.I read,I attempted to get on the computer to see if anyone was on lastnight, computer NOT cooperating, went back upstairs, played NINTENDO,listened to soft music, read some more, played more nintendo, finally gave up and took 50mg benadryl.Fell asleep an hour later, slept four hours, woke up looking like a demon from hell, and feeling worse.
In the early days of detox (geez, I make it sound like that was ages ago, not, it was about 7 weeks ago)I took some Ambien for a few nights, but apparently was sitting up in the middle of the night talking to everyone, answering the phone, but would have no memory of that the next day.No more of that for ME.Trazadone I took last year,I hated it.But that's just me-it made me tired and hungover, moody and depressed.YUCK.
SOOO...probably there is no magic bullet here, unless you want to resort to stronger prescription tranquilizers, which I'm sure, most of us don't.Once again, another one day at a time thing, hanging on to the words that everybody keeps saying-it WILL get better.Meanwhile, we just have to-keep hangin on...
Hugs,Stacie
