I am scheduled for my first mamogram in April and I have been examined by two GYNs in the past 6 months. Both made the statement that my breasts are mildly fibrocystic. I was told I would need a diagnostic mamogram instead of a screening mamogram because I have fibrocystic breast diease. Do any of you have it and is this normal for your first mamogram? I am taking a B-Complex vitamin, I was told it would help with the FBD. I appreciate any replies. :)

Penny Yeah, I have it and my first mammo included a breast ultrasound because the breast tissue was so dense that they wanted a better baseline. By the way, I'll take breast ultrasound over mammography ANY day! :D
Stuff like alcohol and caffeine make the condition worse and boy howdy! Don't get me started on how much my breasts ached when my period rolled around!! :jester:
That's another reason to be turning cartwheels over being menopausal... ;)

best wishes,

Yah, the mammogram was A-ok. And all subsequent ones have been ok (but it's important that radiologist has the prior films to compare those particularly dense areas for any changes over time, so if you move, keep the mammography's center address in your list of important places). It also helps that I have no familial history of breast cancer. :D

Charli & Susan,
Thanks great advice from both of you!! Charli there in no breast cancer on my mothers side of the family and one on my dad's side of the family. Susan that sounds so much better to call it a "condition" instead of disease. I read online more than 50% of women have it. I will start the vitamin E to my vit regimen. My pharmacist told me to take natural vit E it works better at the cellular level he says. He also said it was more expensive and it would say natural on the bottle, but he says it is worth it to get more benefit from the E. Thanks again to both of you!! Here's to better days ahead for all! (even though I don't know if you could stand yours to be any better Charli! :D )

I brought this thread back up because I had my first mammogram on Thursday and I SURVIVED!!! It was really not bad at all, and they did seven films. The Radiologist said no signs of cancer only fibrocystic breast. Which is why I brought this thread back up. I was wondering if anyone that is new to the board or did not respond last time the thread came up knows of anything besides cutting out cafffine to help make the fibrocystics better. I had one reply last time that mentioned vit E and I am doing that. Anyone have other advice?
Thanks
Penny

Hi Penny. I'm going for my 2nd viewing this Thursday. They spotted some findings around both nipples. The right one tends to show maybe some calification, something like that. Hopefully, everything will be fine. I'm not going to worry about it. It was also taken two days before my period, so who knows. Also, when the doc examined my breasts, he was leaning more toward fibrocystic, so I will begin to add the vitamin E to my others.

HI Molly,
You were right ( again :) ) the mamo was not big deal especially since I got a good report! I feel good this time of month day 16, so I just enjoy the good days while I can. I spent time outside today with my mother, she is due to go home in a couple of weeks. We power washed the deck and got it ready for new patio furniture that was delivered today. I have to go now and get some tropical plants to go out there, palms and those time of things. I am just using my natural progesterone cream as I think best. I am going to get bood work to check my progesterone level on Thursday. I want to go on Thursday because it is National Nurses Day and I wanted to take something special to my GP's two nurses they have been so good to me through this ordeal. I cut back my Klonopin at night to .5 from 1 ml. Just started doing that so I will see how it goes. How are you feeling? Do well I hope. Please post again.

Hi Penny,
Glad to hear you are doing well!! Are you doing cartwheels yet? LOL! I just power-washed my deck couple of months ago. Right now, I have contractors at my house. They just finished replacing two balconies with material that will outlive me. I had my deck removed and am going to have these cobblestones put in. It is unbelievable how expensive all this is, not to mention the dust that you get in your house!

I am doing well. Still am on the Paxil. Will see my dr. in couple 3 weeks. Still don't have my period either - going on 6 months now! I am running out of vitamins and am looking into getting a good women's multi so I don't have to take so many pills. Think I am still going to take Evening Primrose, Magnesium in individula pill forms though...think they have helped a lot! Haven't been able to work out as much as I like because of all the stuff going around my house.

I haven't gone for my annual pap or mammo yet. Think I'm avoiding....know I shouldn't, but...I know I'll eventually go. Still have to go for a colonoscopy - dr. recommended it last year when I turned 50 but I felt so bad at that time that I cancelled. Have you had one?

Take care...gotta go for now...
Molly
