View Full Version : Chronic Tonsillitis Treatment
My daughter has been diagnosed with chronic tonsillitis. Does anyone know an affective treatment for this condition other than having her tonsils taken out? Herbs or homeopathic suggestions would be welcome. This condition is supposed to get worse over time and be progressively harder to treat with antibiotics.

What are her symptoms? Does she just get swollen tonsils and the white spots?
I suffered from those symptoms for a long time and every other month it would come back.
I finally found 2 homeopathic remedies that have completely cured me. Any time I would feel it starting to come on, I'd start taking them and now I rarely, if ever have the problem.
Let me know what her symptoms are and if they match mine I can tell you which ones worked for me.
Also, there is a book called The Family Guide to Homeopathy and it is great for looking up illnesses and the remedies to take.
She starts out with one side or the other swelling up and getting a little painful. That progresses to the white spots. The recent attack she had got very bad because the doctor she went to the first time gave her an antibiotic for strep throat. That didn't do anything. By this time both tonsils had become involved. I finally took her to the emergency room and they didn't do anything, but they did give us the name of a throat specialist. By this time her whole tonsils were completely white. The throat specialist gave her a proper antibiotic and it cleared up her probelm in about a week. In researching this problem on the WEB, I find that it gets harder to treat with antibiotics each time it occurs. That's why I want to find something that is an alternative way of treating it. I don't like the idea of having her tonsils taken out.

How old is your daughter? If she is still a small child I would certainly recommend having the tonsils out. I have suffered from tonsilitis for over 3 years now and Im an adult. I never had any problems when I was a child. Treating it can help for a short time. But the tonsilitis will always return. On top of that, your tonsils are what blocks germs from getting into your body and if you have chronic tonsilitis your tonsils are always infected, even if they are not swollen and sore, they are still full of toxins that are going to constantly make you feel sick, tired, and just plain yucky. My ENT suggested I have my tonsils removed because of this. With Chronic it is much harder to treat and antibiotics rarely work like they should. There is a chance that there are natural ways to cure this. I believe strongly in natural medicine as I have seen it do wonders for people and it has helped me. But I personally opt for surgery -- it will be a rough road to recovery. Its something you never want to experience. But once the process is over and your healed, you look back and realize its so worth it. Your energy will increase, you wont be so tired, you will just feel healthy. Something to think about. Whatever you find works, do it. Just thought I'd let you know what I did to cure my illness. Good luck!

Do a search for the ABC's of Homeopathy and find out which remedy may best work for your daughter. For a child this may very well be the way to treat her. A few remedies that come to mind for this condition are
Belladonna 30C every 2 hours for up to 10 doses, Hepar sulf. 6 C every 2 hours for up to 10 doses, and Mer. sol. every 2 hours for up to 10 doses a day. The bottle will have directions on it.
Respiratory allergies could very well be causing her Chronic Tonsillitis, check my post under "understanding why you feel the way you do - " on the Allergy board.

Sorry I didn't respond sooner. I haven't been on here much. Your daughter's symptoms sound just like mine used to be. The homeopathic remedies have cured me completely - probably in conjunction with eating a healthier diet.
Do you have Whole Foods stores where you live? I live in California and luckily there is one near me. They sell homeopathic remedies. If you don't have access to Whole Foods I'm sure there's other stores you can find them at. Or maybe you can even order them on-line.
Mercurious Solubus 30c
Phylotta Decandra 30c
Anytime she feels her tonsils starting to hurt or get swollen just have her start taking them. They just melt under the tongue. Of course if she already has the infection have her take them as well. She can even take them while taking antibiotics. The difference is that the homeopathic remedies make the body cure itself, which makes the person's immunity greater.
Hopefully those will help her. If not, there are plenty of other remedies for throat infections.
Good luck! Let me know how it goes.

One more thing I just remembered. The names of the remedies may have changed. It could also be:
Phytolacca Decandra 30c
Mercurius Vivus 30c
Thanks! I do have a Whole Foods store near me. There is a Vitaminshoppes store near me also. Both have homeopathic remedies. Hopefully one or the other will have the remedies you recommend. I don't visit this site as much as I should either.
An update on my daughter. I got the homeopathic remedies you suggested and they did not help her. Her tonsillitus just got worse until she got an antibiotic from the doctor. Another person recommended 3% peroxide as a gargle. This does not cure her, but offers a little temporary relief.
Her doctor tested her for allergies 3 or 4 weeks ago and had some allergy drops she is supposed to put under her tongue taylored especially for the many things she has a low level allergy to. She got them today and said the first dose seemed to make her feel better immediately. I hope this is the thing that will help her because she has suffered a lot in the last several months.
When the doctor talked to her about allergies, he told her she had a choice of taking allergy shots or getting the allergy drops. She naturally chose the drops. Who would want a shot when something else will work.

I'm sorry to hear the homeopathic remedies didn't work! Bummer.
But that's great she felt better after the treatment you mentioned!
If you still want to to try the homeopathic route I would suggest looking up her symptoms in a homeopathic book and seeing if you can find anything. You never know, other remedies might help.
Best of luck,
