About 4 weeks ago my 63 year old father was diagnosed with lung cancer. A CAT and PET scan determined that a tumor was present in his right lung. After test revealed our worst fears we began to meet with several doctors on how to fight this cancer. We as a family decided to have the right lung removed because no other cancer was detected by either the CAT or PET scan. On March 9th, 2004 my father had the sugery to remove his right lung and everything seemed fine, the doctor who performed the surgery also stated my father had a good CANCER surgery. It was two days later that will forever change my life. My father started talking crazy and losing his memory when I would visit him that day. Later that afternoon a doctor informed me that my fathers cancer had metasized to his brain and that they discovered (2) tumors, (1) on the front lobe, and (1) on the right side lobe. How could a PET and CAT scan miss this cancer in his brain? All my father went through and now this. My father was realeased form the hospital about (6) days after the surgery. (2) days later my father was rushed back to the hospital in terrible pain. After being back in the hospital for about (3) days my fathers face swelled to almost 5 times his normal size. The doctor who performed the surgery new something else was wrong and ran a scan of my father and detected a staple had come loose from where he had cut off the lung and was causing air to release from the bronchal into his face and head area causing swelling. My father was rushed into his second surgery within days apart. After the surgery, the doctor informed us that my father was doiing fine and that he also detected the ribes that were cut apart on the first surgery had also seperated and he had to fix them again. As of this Surgery on March 19th, my father is still in the ICU on a breathing machine. He has since had infection and fliud on his only lung and is day to day on when he will be able to come off the breathing machine. Has anyone else had anything happen to them?
