I am a 30YO male, who has been generally feeling like crap for a while now. I have hypothyroid levels, and have been trying to treat them for a year. My TSH levels are normal and I still feel like garbage. I recently found out my blood ammonia level is 52. The upper limit was 38 I believe. My Red Blood cell count is also a tad high, 6.02 (upper limit is 5.80) and my MCV count is a tad low 78.5 (lower limit is 80). My protien level was high 8.5 (upper limit of 8) and my b12 level was 1180 (upper limit of 900). I also have borderline low ferritin and testosterone in addition to the thyroid condition. My dr. says it's a genetic disorder of b12 metabolism, so I am taking betaine, folinic acid as well as weekly b12 shots. My liver tests are normal. I tested positive for the Epstien Barr Virus, have constant fatigue, dizziness, lethargy and weight gain. Anybody have any idea what this could be ?? All opinions welcome. Thanks.

EPSTEIN BAR VIRUS...HAS A LOT TO ANSWER FOR IN MY OPINION
in 1998 i was diagnosed with the virus and i have had panic anxiety, depression and out there head feelings since
my muscles have been affected badly by this virus...i did have graves disease in 1985 for 10 years but through medication i overcome this illness...but here it is 2004 and i still have the symptoms from epstien bar virus.....now i have low b12 or flunctuating b12 low folate and low iron.....and i get very dizzy and my arms get so heavy and sore....also i have a frozen shoulder....so i really feel that this virus is more toxic then people realise and does so much damage to our nervous system......love to chat

My sons have secondary carnitine deficiency- a rare genetic metabolic disorder- your test results are very similar to theirs, and mine. You may have primary carnitine deficiency- which occurs after adolescence and on, which I have. There are blood tests available. You coudl try L-carnitine supplements, until you know for sure. They are less potent than the prescription form, but do offfer some relief. Glutamine reduces urine amnonia levels.
