the nurse practitioner looked at the tiny pimple on the shaft of my penis. i guess its molluscum. she put nitrogen on it and said to come back again so she could put more on it. i almost started to cry. it feels like i ruined my life. what do i do now? once you have it, do you have outbreaks the rest of your life? does this mean no more sex or intimacy? id appreciate some help. thanks :(

You could do an internet search for "molluscum contagium", you will probably find lots of useful information. After the initial outreak of bumps, most people never get them again, although the virus remains in their system. However, the initial outbreak can last for months, or even a year.

Actually, Molluscum is only considered an STD if the bumps are located on the genitals. Molluscum can be caught by just social touching with someone who has it...it is very common in children in third world countries, who spread it to eachother while playing (non-sexually, of course). :)

so if molluscum appears on the penis, that doesnt necessarily mean you caught it from sex, it could have been from touching. right?

yup, exactly. It can also linger on towels or sheets.

Exactly. It can also be caught at tanning salons, can be transferred by sharing a damp towel with an infected person, and the molluscum virus has been found on the concrete sides of public pools (like if you were sitting on the ground with your feet dangling in the pool). Also, since it is so easy to spread molluscum around your body once you have contracted it, it is possible that the initial infection occured somewhere else on the body, and it could then be spread to the genitals by your own hands, like from masturbating or using the bathroom, etc.
