No Molluscum is not only present in people with weakened immune systems. I have doen a lot of research on this condition. People with a 'healthy' immune system will usually have the initial outbreak of molluscum last from 2 months to even 9 months or maybe a year. After that, even though it is still in their system, it is very rare for it to reoccur. Molluscum is actually a common occurance in young children. You can get it from things like skin-to-skin contact or even coming into contact with any surface that may have the virus. People with a weakened immune system usually have them on other spots of their body (Face) rather then on their genital or theigh area and they can grow to be quite large and disfiguring. Since Molluscum is not life threatening in the least, its only real downfall is the embarrasment of having them. Either go to a doctor who can give you some medication to help quicken the healing process, or just wait it out. They should eventually disappear on their own. As for oral sex, I dont really know if it can be contracted that way since every article i have read has never mentioned it. Good luck!

Yes, they can be contacted through oral sex. My friend got them through oral sex. They spread quickly so be careful not to touch it or scratch it, etc. if you do, wash your hands immediately. An over the counter remedy you can try while waiting it out is tea tree oil. You can get this by the walmart pharmacy. Witch hazel or rubbing alcohol even works to dry them out. Hope i can help. I have them right now too, they are almost gone though, so if you have any questions let me know.

How long did you have them before they started to disappear? What exactly does the tea tree oil do?

i already popped it not knowing it was molluscum. how long will it take before it spreads? :( also, if i got it through oral sex, then does that mean she had molluscum inside her mouth?

Mine took a few weeks before they spread from popping them. If it was from oral sex then she might have had one around the outside of her mouth, a tiny pimple, its hardly noticable. My ex had them on his mouth, they really werent noticable. I don't think you can get them inside of your mouth. My best advice about getting them not to spread is to make sure that during showers you wash with soap that says "ANTIBACTERIAL" on it. Preferably the liquid soap. If you are going to pop them or rub/itch them, make sure that you clean the area afterwards, even if it is just with alcohol. I don't think anyone is sure why or how the tea tree oil works. Its one of those "unknown remedies." But it is completely safe. My first one disappeared within a month of usuing nothing but alcohol on it. I got my first one around the middle of January. About a month later i got a lot more. I ended up having about 10 in my genital region and about 5 on my back and one of my arm. The ones on my back and arm, i put clear nail polish on and they were gone within a few days, when the nail polish came off on its own. The ones on my genital region, I started using aldera cream and i have been usuing that for 2 weeks, alternating night with the alcohol, but i have no new bumps that I can tell and it seems like the others are going away. So it took all of this about 3 months after I got the first one. Anymore questions let me know.

thanks for your help and advice. heres some other questions i have:
1. if i got this from oral sex, how come i havent gotten any bumps on my mouth? wouldnt have i gotten it from kissing?
2. is showering a major risk of spreading it?
3. if my immune system isnt weak, does that make a difference on how many i will get?
thanks again.

Its a strange illness, you might not have or they might not have shown up yet. Usually they dont show up on the mouth unless you have a weakened immune system. They usually show up in places that are dark and not exposed. Showering is not a major risk, just make sure that you use antibacterial soap in the shower. If your immune system is strong they will be less likely to spread. They will also be less likely to end up in other places, just be careful about where you touch and if you come in contact with them then wash your hands. My ex has an exteme case of them now, all over his arms and face and legs and back, it just started with one in his genital area. Mine have been contained to my genital area and a few on my back and neck. Mine are almost gone though and his have been getting worse because he has been scratching them and not showering enough. Make sure you shower AT LEAST once a day. Wearing cotten underwear/boxers should help also. Any other questions let me know, and keep my posted on the appearance/progress of your molloscum. Good luck!

i have another question. i have read that molluscum has been mistaken for early stages of genital warts. is it possible that what i have is hpv, even though the nurse practitioner said its most likely molluscum? how long does hpv take to go from early stages to late stages? thanks.

I asked my gyn what the difference was. She said that genital warts do not have the indent in the middle and they usually look like cauliflower. She said that molloscum bumps are usually small and flesh colored with a dimple in the middle. The dimple is how you usually diagnose them.

i had molluscum a few months back, and they have since disappeared and have been gone for a while now. however, i had sex on sunday (part of the time unprotected :nono: ) and on wednesday i noticed a single tiny red bump... too small for me to be able to notice a dimple, on the top of my penis. i am positive it was not there on sunday, for i check myself out a lot, and i was just wondering if it still could have been spread because i have read that the only way the bumps are transferred from one person to another is from direct contact to a bump and rigorous rubbing.... i am not sure what to do, i put some aldara on it and witch hazel and its pretty mmuch just a spot now. let me know if you think it could have been spread
