anyone got any tips on toilet training. my son is coming up to ten years old. some times he wil go to the toilet by him self during the day but mostly he has to be taken. during the day he will only pass water no bowel movements!
at night we put a nappy on him and within a hour or two he has a bowel movement. i would love to get him out of night nappies.

Trisha,

I'm only speaking from my experience. My son was 3 when he was potty trained for #1. By 3 1/2 he was fully pottied trained. #2 was a struggle. He would go to the bedroom shut the door and do it in his underware. When I realized he knew what he was doing I started putting him in the corner (which he hates). After three days he decided the potty was not so bad for #2. I have found that being firm and consistent works best with him. Do you think he knows what he is doing since he waits for the nappie to do it? Have you tried not using the nappie at night? I know you probably have but just don't want a big mess. I know I have been there. But sometimes you just have to set your mind to it and be stronger willed then he is. It is very very hard.

hi rachel
thanks for your quick answer.yes we have tried putting jason to bed without a nappy at night for about a month but he was always wet and smelly every morning. and he started getting rashes on his bum.at times i went in and changed his sheets during the night but he screamed the place down and i couldn`t get him back to sleep. ended up his mattrest, sheets, and downie had to be washed and dried nearly every day thats not easy having our scottish weather!
but now we have managed to get more sheets, mattrest covers, and more downies and the warmer weather is coming so it will be easier to dry the things out side
good for you getting your son toilet trained so young!
wish me luck.

Trisha,

I know all about the screaming and I wish you all the luck in the world in getting Jason potty trained.

hello, my name is cindy, what if you purchased special underwear, like scooby-doo or superman- whoever..someone your son likes, and he gets to wear them only to bed IF they stay clean and dry? I potty trained my first son by drawing a bullseye on yhe bottom of a coffee can..he didn't like the potty.. another way is to use blue bowl cleaner tablets..kids like to change the color to green when they pee..also heard one boy likes to "shoot at" cheerios in the potty.. good luck.
