Hello, I am a student in dental hygiene. I am giving an oral presentation on dental concerns for patients with autism. I am very interested in personal stories that may improve awareness in my field and experiences (good and bad) that may help us, as future hygenists',in understanding how to best treat the patient and involved family members. I know what is in a text book, but I feel these are lacking in "real life" scenarios. If anybody can provide me with some insight on what to expect, how to best interact with the patient and/or caregiver, and what the patient and/or caregiver would like to see happen when things do not go as planned. Please include the severity of the autism and any information that will help with your personal story.
Thank you
Sam
