Has anyone ever had this done? I only wear my glasses when I'm driving at night, watching tv, at a sporting event, or if my eyes are tired in front of the computer at work. I don't want to become too dependent on them. I would love more than anything to be able to see clearly without this fuzzy "film" over everything. If anyone has had this done, I would love to hear about your experience!

I know one person that had it done...he couldn't see more than liek a foot infront of his face. He got it done and now can see far away but close up is a real problem so he is back in glasses. I was talking to my aunt and she said the same thing happened to her friend! Hope this helps a little!

Thanks for the reply. :) Hmm, I don't want to go from not seeing far away to not seeing close up. I just want to have the freedom to see all things at all times. I guess it may all depend on how someone's vision is in the first place?

hi,
i had lasik done and everything is great. i can tell you that the fact that these people probably cant' see up close after having lasik is most likely due to their age. when you get into your 40s everyone will need help with close. that is just a natural ageing process of the eye. if you are younger than 40ish then you shouldn't have problems with up close.
hope that helps... :)

Hi Sherry,
I didn't think of it like that but it makes sense. I'm only 25 so I don't think it's anything for me to worry about right now. I still need to do more research on it. A big thing for me is money. Do a lot of people have to pay out of pocket or does insurance cover this kind of surgery? Thanks for all your help. :)

insurances do not cover this but if you have a vision plan, sometimes they will give you a discount like 15% or 20% if you use certain docs. you have to check with them. if you have any questions about lasik, feel free to ask.

Thanks for all your help guys. :) I'm a little bit scared to go ahead and do this but I really want to have it done. I'll definitely be looking more into it!

Hi BostonGirl44
I am getting Lazik Surgery done Feb.1,05 and I guess Insurance's (might)cover some but the eye cenetrs should offer a finance plan, such as 0% for 1-2 yrs.
Try that! Roadboss

I just wanted to put my 10 cents in! I had lasik 12/13/2004 and was 20/25 both eyes at 2 weeks...this after being so blind it wasn't safe to cross the road...wore hard contacts since 1973 and was getting to where i needed reading glasses (i'm old) the actual procedure took minutes..no pain..and little discomfort afterwards..and i can see in the night now...I hear so many horror stories about it..i wanted to share a good one...I would do it again in a second...I wish you luck in your endeavor..and believe me..i talked myself out of it for a year..i was skeered!

what is your eyesight uncorrected now? If you only need glasses for driving then your a low myope and do NOT need lasik as your vision is good enough for everything but driving

I didn't get Lasik done. In May of 2004, I decided to get contacts instead and have been pleased with them since. My vision wasn't horrible to begin with but annoying enough that I'd constantly be squinting and it would cause headaches. I think contacts was the right choice for me.

I am 35 and was told that I am "young enough" to not have to worry about my close-up vision. However, I had Lasik 2 weeks ago and have been left with a very, very minor residual astigmatism in my right eye (yes, I had astigmatism before and had to use my glasses for reading). I can still see the text, but it has a slight blur which I find very frustrating and tiring. I am actually looking forward to my one month check up so I can get a prescription for reading glasses. I have not heard of others with this problem, but age is not the only reason you may need reading glasses.
