Hello,

What kind of help are you looking for? My son has been on this diet along with his allergy diet for over a year now. Are you wanting to know what we feed our kids? A good book is "Special Diets for Special Kids" by Lisa Lewis. This is a cookbook along with alot of other useful information that will help you on the diet. Ask any questions you have. There are alot of people here who know alot about the diet.

Pick me pick me! Sorry, Im getting a little excited here! I also would love anyhelp available with a gf/cf diet. My sons (4&2) are both autistic, the older is allergic to : milk, egg, nuts (all anaphylactic) also potato, rice milk, orange, tomato, sesame seed, poppy seed, chicken, soy, wheat, lentils, broad beans, peas, and many colourings and flavouring, mainly the yellow ones. Any ideas, help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hello acbuchan,

WOW!!! Your son cannot eat anything. I really sympathize with you. It was really hard on me and my son when I started the GF/CF diet and even harder when the allergist informed me of what my son could no longer eat. Are all of the allergies that your son have mild or severe? There were several that my son had that were mild. I still allow him to eat these items but only about twice a week. I'm going to list some of my sons favorite foods but I'm not sure that your son can have these. You may want to check them out anyway.

crackers-Blue Diamond Nut Thins (pecan, almond, hazelnut)
Milk-Blue Diamond -Almond Breeze Milk (plain, vanilla, choc)

Pretzels made by Ener-G
Waffles- Van's (plain, cinnamon apple)

Muffins, bread, pizza dough, donuts, hamburger buns, hot dog buns- made by Kinnikinnick in Canada

Beef Franks-Hebrew National

Rice Twice Cereal- Made by Erewhon

Puffed Rice Cereal

Vanilla Cookies- Made by Ener-G

Potato Chips- Barbara's All Natural

A good substitute for potatoes is Taro.

Juicy Juice popcicles

Juicy Juice

For Dinner I always cook fresh so it makes it easier to control what goe's in his mouth. For example...Taco meat-we cannot use the packaged spices they have wheat in them so I just mix up my own spices adding rice flour in place of wheat. Tastes the same and he loves it and so do we. Chicken Nuggets can be made using a blend of flours. Tastes better if you kind of mix up several different flours such as white rice, Garbanzo flour, tapioca flour, sweet rice sorghum flour and fava flour.

These are a few items off the top of my head that he enjoys eating. I hope this helps some.

Hello,

In my case with my son...I had to be set my mind to do it and stick with it. It is not an easy task but I think it will be worth your while. I had/have to be stronger willed than he was/is. Now he will at least take a few bites of something new where as a year ago he would not even try anything without screaming and having a big fit. Now he tells me "one bite and thats it" and I accept that. Usually I can get him to take a few more bites without too much trouble.

I posted a few food items that are acceptable on the gf/cf diet in my last post here. Maybe you could try adding some of these to her diet while taking away some of the old. I can tell you, at first, I thought I was not going to be able to do it. I remember going to the grocery store and crying because I was not used to looking at all the labels and thinking what is baby going to eat. But, it got better and it is not so bad now.

I would also like to share with you that I still have doubts as to the diet. But, everytime I start doubting myself I test the diet. For instance, this past weekend I was worried about him not eating because of a new medication that has been introduced to my son. One of the side effects is loss of appitite. He is already thin and not eatting scares me. SOOOOOO, I let him have some chicken nuggets from McDonalds (1st time in over a year). BIG, BIG mistake. Sunday he had really red circles under his eyes and he screamed all day for no reason. I have to blame the nuggets since nothing
else changed. This pretty much makes me a believer again (at least for a while).

Good luck with the diet. Ask any questions you have.

Rachel K
