Does anybody know, is there a difference (if doctors' skill is not taken into account), in terms of final results, between open and closed rhinoplasty? I mean does it heal faster or looks better if done with closed? Does closed work better on noses with little improvement needed and open for noses which need a lot of correction? Because there are only two types of surgeons: those performing open rhino and those performing closed rhino (the last say they also perform open rhino, but only on difficult cases, which is almost 5%). I wouldn't say my nose is difficult, but I would say it definitely needs more than a tiny correction :) .
So, if anybody noticed a difference in the final outcome between the 2 procedures please let me know, it would be very helpful in making a decision on what type of surgeon should I pick for my rhino.

Hi, I just had my surgery yesterday and I had a closed rhinoplasty with an awesome surgeon. My nose was shortened, bump removed, and straightened. So, in other words, I had a lot of work done. Plus I had my deviated septum straightened b/c I couldn't breathe. He told me closed is better for primary surgery and the result is better. But again, do go to one that specializes in closed surgeries. Do check him out in terms of his credentials.
Ever since I woke up from the surgery I haven't had any pain whatsoever. I do feel some pressure as my face is swelling, but very minor. I am so happy it's all done and over with and I wouldn't doubt my decision to do it all over again. It was expensive but I saved my money and fortunately for me my mom paid half. I had it done in the doctor's private clinic only b/c I was allowed to stay over nigth with private care and wouldn't have to drive back to remove my packing. The removal of packing was a bit intense as it felt rather weird, but not painful. I will tell you one thing, DO look for a specialist in ONLY neck and head cosmetic surgery. Don't look for one that performs all these other ones as he's not specified and all-rounded in one area but all, which may limit his ability. My doctor was a specialist with artistic skills. I wish you much luck. If you have any questions, ask away. :)

Hi katty233, thanks for your answer. I checked out dr. Conrad's site and I was truly impressed. He does a beautiful work. This is relieving, since I have the same problems and it seems that closed rhino heals better and even looks better. I was just not sure it can do wonders on noses with lots of problems. Can you tell me how much did dr. Konrad charge you?

My rhino was a closed one. It doesnt matter if the rhino is open or closed. I have seen great surgeries with both. And it doesnt matter if the surgeon only specializes in the face, there is great overall plastic surgeons than can do perfect bobbies and perfect noses. It all boils up to be a SKILLFULL cosmetic surgeon. If he is good whatever approach he uses will be fine.

Yes I've heard of him and I did consider him, however my choice was not based on price, but experience. You can't undo a bad nose job, however a loan can always be paid off OR work and save, as I did. I work full time and 60% of my paycheck went to my savings account biweekly. It's as easy as that. The doctor that performed my surgery came highly recommended and his whole staff is professional. I put all my trust into him and as swollen as I am, I can tell it will look just as I wanted it to. He's not only skilled but he's artistic and the surgeries he performs look natural and normal. I couldn't have picked a better surgeon.

I rather not be specific as I think the amount he charges depends on the length and complexity. Because I stayed in his clinic it was extra, and well worth it. Let's just say is was near close to a 5 digit number. Again, I wouldn't consider price for rhinoplasty ESPECIALLY if you think your nose may be difficult to operate, considering that rhinoplasty is one of the toughest surgeries to perform. Specialist is what I looked for, then all I had to do is save save and save. It's day 4 for me and I am noticing it will look as I've wanted it to. I'm very happy about the shape (despite the amount of swelling) and the fact I'll be able to breathe normally. :)

Yes, you are correct to the extent that when you say "it boils up to be a skillfull cosmetic surgeon" and I'll say that the most skillfull one is one that "specializes" in that particular surgery. Breast augumentation is not a hard surgery to perform. Rhinoplasty however is, so I will say that a specialist that is experienced and well credited with artistic flow will do a good job. I've watched many programs and researched many websites and spoke to people who've had it done. One girl paid 12,000 USD and it looks perfect. One girl paid cheap and ended up with a deformed nose and needed 4 surgeries.
You have to research and you have to trust your doctor, when in doubt, move on.

I also live in Toronto and have always wanted to get my nose done (I can't stand looking at my side profile in the mirror). My nose does not have a bump although it's too big for my face and I find myself being really self conscious about it whenever I'm out in public. I have done lots of research about surgeons in Toronto and was considering Dr. Tarnash. Years ago there was a really good write up in I believe Flare or Toronto Life magazine about all the surgeons in Toronto and what people thought about them having had cosmetic surgery. They were all rated by real people which was truly amazing. I wish a magazine would do this again as there are probably many new surgeons in Toronto I know nothing about. The problem for me is the cost as I'm single and do not make a lot of money which is the only thing holding me back. I can't get a loan right now because I have some debts to pay off. Would it be reasonable to say that the fee for rhino would be in the $3500-$5000 range for a not too complicated surgery? (I mean no bump to shape or deviated septum). Any feedback would be really appreciated. Thanks

Most possibly, but you'd have to go see the doctor. I saw those before and after from that website you provided. I will say honestly, I do not like the results. Check Dr. Conrad. I assure you will NOT be disappointed, nor will you have any after doubts. If he could make my nose look so natural and so perfect from its original state - then I will HIGHLY recommend him. He's a specialist, and he works with specialists. Search for him in google and check his website and after results.
I'm 3 weeks post my surgery and it's looking awesome. Everyone says it looks amazing... natural... and just beauteeeeeful! Mind you, I had the bump taken off, shortened, straightened, and my deviated septum fixed. Those pics form the website you provided, when I look at their after shots, their noses are still crooked. Mine was really crooked, and it's perfectly straight that I myself can't believe it when I look in the mirror. Mind you, I can't stop looking it looks so perfect. You would never tell I had anything done.
About the price thing, I have loans to pay off too. I've wanted this for ages. I saved even if this meant I couldn't buy anything. I also worked 2 jobs up until my surgery.

HI Katyy, I am sorry I couldn't answer your reply. Thank you very much you answered my question. I agree with you, loan can pay off. I wanna ask an other question; i don't think I have a big problem with my nose except bumb. And I am a male, all I want is removed this bumb, that's it. Do you still recomend a surgeon who is top? or maybe i don't need to go a top surgeon, because of my easy male nose shaping. What do you think? Thanks

I have had both open and closed rhinoplasty. I think that there is surprisingly little difference in post op. I would go with whatever surgeon is the best and not worry about whether it is open or closed. Worry only about the surgeon's skill.
