I am female with a family history of Crohns and Diverticulitis. My BM's have never been normal, ever. But, no signs of the disease yet. Heres my question, had my gall bladder removed about a year ago, which at first caused diaherrea, now I am constipated all of the time, I recently started taking fiber supplements and I drink plenty of water, is there anything else I can do or is this a side effect of having no gall bladder?
Thanks for any input.

Most people tend to have recurrent diarrhea after their gallbladder is removed. Are you taking Iron, or any kind of narcotic? Those things tend to be constipating. Increasing your fibre is a good thing. Fruits tend to give diarrhea if eaten in large quantities, but things like whole grains and vegetables are good choices. You can also buy products like Metamucil that can give you added fibre as well.

I am not on any supplements or vitamins, I dont take any narcotics either. I started taking a fiber supplement which is helping a little, but something is still not right.
Thank you for replying.

I also have always had irregular bm's. Lately i have been constipated a lot, so i bought some Citricel. It is mixed with 8oz of water and taste like orange, so it doesn't taste bad at all. Don't get metamucil, that stuff tastes horrible. Also, i have started drinking 1 glass a day of this to get all the fiber i need per day, its been 3 days and i have noticed some improvement. But since i know that i don't get enough fiber throughout the day, this should help me out a lot.
Good Luck
