Hello, I would like to share my story on IBS, and how it has affected my life the last six years!
About five years ago, I noticed that I started to have bad indigestion, which sometimes made me feel like vomiting! About two months after this continuous indigestion, I began to get ill in the morning after I woke up. Usually in the morning after I woke, I would feel like vomiting, followed by a very slow and not so pleasing bowel movement, but as soon as I had a bowel movement I felt better! As the day went on I would eat normally, and around 8:00 P.M. I would notice that the lower right side of my gut felt like ther was a knot it, not much pain, just a large knot!
This went on for several months, so I decided to go to my physician, the following is a list of medical procedures that I had done over the next three-year stretch:
1. Barium colon X-ray - Revealed no problems.
2. Stomach X-ray – Revealed no problems.
3. Gull Bladder ultrasound – Revealed no problems.
4. Kidney ultrasound – Revealed no problems.
5. Scooped – Revealed no problems.
6. Was checked for hemorrhoids. – None found.
7. Change of diet – Some small positive results, none to brag about.
8. Fiber – At the beginning of my IBS, yes! Now, no positive results!
Finally my doctor says I have IBS, now I thought to myself great, at least I know what it is, and then when my doctor said there is no cure or treatment for it, I about went ballistic!
To this day, I still wonder if this is what I have?
Now it's five years later, I still have indigestion, and terrible constipation, usually never diarrhea! I usually go in the morning, after coaxing my bowel with a cup of warm tea, and even then it sometimes does not work! I also have experienced very small stool, which look like it was being pushed through one of those play dough machines with all the different shapes and sizes! After seeing this I thought to myself, maybe I have internal hemorrhoids, but guess what? None found!
This Syndrome has completely ruined my life! The worst side effect from this syndrome, was the fact that I isolated myself from going anywhere, because I was afraid I would lose bowel control, this thought process was based on real bad bowel situations that occurred while I was traveling on a family vacation, and traveling for work! To make a long story short, I started to have Anxiety, and panic attacks from these bad experiences, and only left my house, if I had to!
Well, it’s 6 years now; I have lost my job, lost my wife, and lost the desire to enjoy life because of this so-called IBS! I am at the end of my wits with this, anymore, I am just going to start doing the things I used to enjoy, and If I vomit, soil myself, have anxiety and panics, so be it! IBS - definition = Life Destroyer!
If anyone can mention any relief natural, or otherwise, from this constapation, and lack of movement in my bowel, I would be forever thankfull!

Have faith Alan, there is always an answer. I know it sounds like a cliché, but you've got to take it one day at a time.
I've just started experiencing what you're feeling a few months ago. First it was loose stools, then it turned to diarrhea and then stomach cramps and queasy noises, then almost cartoonish gas, followed by dizzy spells and nausea.
I started taking Fibercon which helped bulk up the stools. I don't go as frequently as I did before (I hear that a lot of people here take it for D and C). I also noticed that my gut pain decreased by a lot. I also stopped having dizzy spells (so far so good.) I started taking acidophilus pills about a week and a half ago and I feel like its helped diminish the gas. I stopped drinking any form of caffeine and started drinking strong peppermint tea twice a day. I'm finding that really big meals give me the urge to go to the bathroom (especially at dinner time) and give me really bad gas/cramps.
I've been trying to establish a routine for the past few weeks and I think I'm beginning to manage the situation. Although tonight I decided to push it and went to a buffet, just to see what happens and much to my dismay had to excuse myself twice to hit the loo.
I've been too busy lately to stay regular with my meditation/exercise/yoga regimen, but that will soon change once I'm over this hump.
I want to be the way I was before this all happened. I used to have an iron-clad stomach and now it seems every little thing throws me off.
Alan, if this is the first time on the boards, I'd suggest you look up some of the archived posts. You may find some tips that people have found useful.
Take heart buddy, we are all out here trying to cope and help each other out.

I could identify with the interference in the quality of your life. To put it bluntly "it sucks". My condition is not constipation its the reverse. I could go multiple times, 10x a day. Severe spasms in my colon. Afraid to travel. If I have an appt with a client I have to think of any excuse to cancel it because of my condition.
I now take medication to purposely constipate me so that I won't have to worry about using the bathroom. Believe it or not, its' been my medical drug. I can now travel anywhere and not worry. I never believed in taking medication, but if there is a drug out there that can help you and allow you to live your life, then "great". I have tried the route of therapy and am currently still going. Its' helped me in many areas but has not gotten rid of the IBS. So for now it's meds for me and I can live :)
Good Luck to all of you.

Hi alan,
You could always take bile salts pills. Take a quarter of a pill (break them with a pill splitter) to start with, with each of your meals: only if you suffer from hard stools, because otherwise it is going to give you the runs. Then slowly adjust the quantity you take until you feel comfortable.
You will just be "supplementing" your gall bladder's production of bile, and so it is a natural way to help you relieve your hard stools. It is usually prescribed to people who have had their gall bladders removed and is available OTC (over the counter) at drug stores and natural food stores and it shouldn't be expensive. I live in Canada, and get mine for about $8 per bottle. I guess I know about the cure, cause I took my chances and tried it myself - works for me, and a number of other people now: at least it seems that way.
Good luck dude. Let us know what you think. No one has yet let me know it works, but then again no one has yet complained that it doesn't.
