Hi Kizzygirl,

Concerta is a drug containing Methylphenidate. it is a one a day treatment for ADHD or ADD. It is recommended by the makers to be used in part of a complete programme incorporating educational, behavioral and social skills support.
Sorry I don't know any more.

Yes my son is on conerta he is 16 and is dignosed aspergers - ADHD. concerta is just like ritalin except you take it once a day ( my son likes to take it early so it does not keep him up at night) he would take 3 doseges of ritalin a day and like most he had highs and lows .the conerta lasts most of the day .my son said he likes it better and that is what we like to hear.... hope this helped you

I am depressed, ADD/ADHD, and Bi-polar I've been on such things as concerta for 7 years. I've taken ritalin, aderall, and am now on Concerta. I have been on it for a while, going on my 4th year. It really does work. It's great, you only have to take it once a day, it is time released, and it's easy to swallow. It helps with concentration and even slightly with mood control. I just started taking the highest dose possible. My Mom thinks it works well. I'm also on Wellbutrin and was on paxil. Hope that helped.

My ten-year-old daughter is Autistic, ADHD, and OCD, and who knows what else we just haven't gotten to yet. We have her on Concerta, and it has just done wonders for her. We really weren't expecting this much out of this medication. The only trouble we have is getting her to sleep, but we have found that given one Benedril before bedtime, and she go to sleep just fine.

Now, our second daughter has just been put on Concerta in the last week, and we haven't seen any improvement at all. I have yet to be completely convinced that she even has ADHD, but she is having trouble in school, and I thought if it might help, then it was worth a try. She hasn't responded at all to this medication---either good or bad.

I guess that isn't much help now that I think of it. It still leaves you with a 50/50 on what to do. The only thing I can say is that if it does work, then it is almost a miracle drug, but if it doesn't, then you are still where you are today. I hope that is of some help.

Thanks everyone, all your info was very helpful. She has now been on Concerta for a little over a month now and it's like I have a new kid! I can take her places with me she's doing better in school and on the bus, I actually feel like I can have a life outside my home now. It's wonderful!

Greetings all...How do I go about getting this drug for my son...Can I go through his regular physician, or do I need to get my son into a psychaiatrist? Any help would be appreciated.

At first my mom talked to my pediatrician. Then I saw a guy about it. I've had a therapist every since. Your doctor can prescribe it, though a longer appointment is needed, so the doctor can talk with your son and all. Before you have the medication prescribed make sure that he sees a therapist because it's not neccessarly a great thing to start out on concerta right away. I started on ritalin first. And if he's never had medication before a trial for a couple months is needed. It helps determine what dosages and what drugs to use. Also have him tested to make sure he actually needs medication for his ADD.

Just though I would share that my son has been on ritilin almost seven years and though it works wonders he has the highs and lows with it so we tried the concerta, it didnt last even 8 hours for him, he is on a the gfcf diet as well as corn free, when he has a diet infraction he loses bladder control and becomes very aggressive, by day four of this medicine he was an absolute nightmare and we pulled him off it, I know it works wonders for many and we are the rare case but incase there is anyone else out there suffering this rare side effect I thought I would share because as each day progressed I thought perhaps each incident was unrealated but by day four he was so incredibly cranky and mean and grouchy it took days for it to all get out of his system (as it does with any diet infraction- I suspect it was the binding/slow release compound ) -meme
