I had a question, maybe someone out there could answer this. Some people that have herpes may or may not show symptoms, but its good to have a doctor examine you I know. But, then you could possibly have internal vaginal lesions right? Will a regular family doctor not a gynecologist be able to see them by doing a pap smear or pelvic exam? If not what tests would they have to perform then? Also, what could be some other causes of vaginal burning besides herpes? Lately I've been having vaginal burning, not external, but internal and along the sides of my vaginal walls. It didn't come from having intercourse because its been two weeks since the last time my boyfriend and I had sex. Also I thought it might be a yeast infection, but when I started using that medicine, it made the burning worse. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I had a bacterialogical vaginal infection once. Yuck. Took a long time to cure--start using acidophilus, both orally and vaginally. That helps restore balance to your vaginal area, whatever is wrong.

If you have an internal lesion, it would probably be very difficult for a dr to see. Is the pain all around in your vagina, or is it on one certain side or spot?

In answer to your question, the pain starts out inside on only one side, but then a little later its on both sides, and then the burning pain then turns into itching.

Hi There,
I just posted a posting yesterday- Burning for 7 months help!. I was diagnosed with Genital Herpes end of August 2003, which means I have had it about 8 months total. I went on Acycolvir for the first o/b, then after getting a small o/b and being terrified of having another bad o/b I asked my doctor for supressive therapy - I was prescribed Valtrex - 2x250 mg day, well....I started to burn and the pain is exactly how you said. It is usually on the left side, and sometimes goes to the right. It feels like someone put alcohol on a cut and then it varies between burning and itching. So, I got the medication changed to Famvir - it was better but not much and I am going crazy. The burning and the pain is upsetting me more than the herpes, sometimes I have redness on the side where the burning it - just awful. I went to my gyno twice, he examined me on the outside and said that it is not an o/b, and he did all the tests for STD's, Bacterial Vaginosis and yeast - all negative. So my gyno thinks it is either PHN ( POST HERPATIC NEURALGIA ) the nerves have been damaged due to the o/b. It can take up to a year or longer for the nerves to heal OR Vulvodynia, a vaginal condition which is a medical mystrey. I just stopped taking the Famvir 4 days ago and I swear it is 90% better than it was already. Also, I would like to recommend you go to Ask Jeeves - search engine and type in Vulvodynia...There is an amazing website on it, and it is all posts from literally hundreds of women around the world who speak about this terrible soreness and itch and they have lots of posts about what helps it. You can ask your gyno about PHN ( which is known to be associated with Vulvodynia). Take care and if I find out more I will post here and let you know. A few suggestions about it : No pantyhose ( stayups only ), after your shower - put some Gold Bond Medicated Powder down there or Mexi Cornstrach Powder, and the best thing so far for me is BENADRYL cream, it's like AHHHHHHHH - as soon as I put it on I get immediate relief. I took a Bendadryl capsule today when I felt it slightly and it also helped.
