My post surgery vision is poor and my band aid contact lens seems to fall off quickly. I plan on my next visit to ask for several. Does anyone know how these lenses contribute to healing?

lyle11230 04-03-2004, 07:25 PM My post surgery vision is poor and my band aid contact lens seems to fall off quickly. I plan on my next visit to ask for several. Does anyone know how these lenses contribute to healing? purple2067 04-04-2004, 10:57 PM Did the doctor tell you to replace the lens yourself if it falls out, or are you supposed to go back and have the doctor do it? The reason I ask is that two years ago I had a very very severe corneal ulcer and aside from being on anti-biotic drops, I had to wear a bandage contact lens to prevent my eyelid from rubbing off any newly formed corneal epithelium every time I blinked. I am not sure what kind of lens my eye doctor used. But I do know that he did not supply me with any replacements. I did know how to put contact lenses in because I used to wear them. But he said that under no circumstances was I to try touching that eye myself. It fell out at least once every two days or so because my eye was so dry, and I had to keep going back and let him put in a new one. I think he was afraid that if I did it myself I might accidentally injure the eye more. What kind of surgery did you have? Are you allowed to use any sort of rewetting solution to keep the eye moist enough to hold the contact in place? If the eye is too dry, the contact is going to fall out. lyle11230 04-06-2004, 09:11 PM My sincere appreciation for your info. I had a custom wave laser procedure and I was nearly blind immediately afterwards, but the vision has been improving very gradually. I had trated the terms "healing" and "vision improvement" synonymously but I saw the doc yesterday, and, while my eye had healed, my vision has a long way to go. Ironically, my bandage lens had not fallen out this week, although it did the week before. If I do the second eye, based on your information I will ask for extras to take home. Thanks again.
