Hello,
I used valtrex for the first time (after struggles with OBs for a year using everything and anything that could possibly work). I used it for five days, two 500mg pills twice a day. It worked great and cleared everything up fast. However, I got a mild ob late at night by the end of the third day. I started taking the Valtrex again the same way (twice a day). I was just wondering if anyone else has had an OB so soon after taking the valtrex. I was thinking that it would keep the OBs away for longer than that. Also, I was wondering if anyone has their OB triggered by sex. I read that it is a possible trigger and I'm trying to figure out if that is what caused my OB because it came up as soon as my husband and I had finished having sex (or so it seemed to me). Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

The friction and rubbing of sex often used to trigger ob's for me. I started using KY Silky as a lubricant every time we have sex--I put some inside and all around the outside down there, and then put some on him. (Recently I forgot to put some on him, and he said, "Hey--aren't you going to...?" so it can be a pleasant, not awkward, practice!) It's such a good lubricant that just a few drops will do, so even though it's expensive, I don't run out very quickly.
I also found that leaving myself messy after sex was a trigger, so when he gets up right after to wash himself off (he doesn't have h and this is one of our precautions) I also get up and wash with a mild cleaning bar (Neutrogena) and then fill my old reusable douche (anyone know where I can get another non-disposable one?) with warm salted water and rinse myself out. The salted water (just a little salt, as is in your own mucous membranes) is very soothing. This regime has kept me from getting ob's from sex. Now if I could get rid of the period-triggered ones!!! Guess I'll just have to wait for menopause.
I'm sorry I can't help you with your other questions. And sorry you're having a bad time with this crazy virus.

Thank you,
I appreciate your response. I will definitely try those things. I had never heard about the salt water and I'd like to try it. I don't have a douche so could I put it in a spray bottle or does it really need to get inside? Let me know what you think. Thanks again.

Hey Bluefish...just wanted to add my 25 cents on Valtrex....I think the key is to allow the body to develop a tolerance to the virus. I started Valtrex immediatley after I was infected...and became so distraught...to my surprise...Valtrex had a bad reaction to the virus. The more Valtrex I took the worse my virus responded. It almost seemed to me that Valtrex was actually irritating the virus...every single day I took a pill the virus was active. No outbreaks..but I had that annoying terrible tingling non-stop all down my leg and side. I stopped taking Valtrex and the tingling automatically vanished. I started doing OOO, OLE, Liquid Qxygen, Lysine for a few months and they appeared to stop all signs and symptoms...I then slowly got off everything and am now only on Valtrex.....for the past 9 months I have not had a tingle, symptom or any sign of anything...I mean zilch....even while taking OOO and OLE I use to get a tingle....I have only been infected since July 2002...almost 2 years....so I think once my body got a handle on the virus it was able to control it through suppressive therapy.
