View Full Version : Help with Minor Hearing Loss

Hi,

I recently had trouble with a medical exam to join a law enforcement style job.

The doctor told me I had a hearing loss, which was news to me!!

I have gone my whole life without realising I had any problem hearing (I actually thought my hearing was quite good).

Apparently I have Bilateral Sensorineural hearing loss.

Lower frequencies 500-2000 are OK under 20db
Frequencies between 2000-4000khz start to drop off, down to around 45db.
then back up to under 20db at 6000khz.

I have a mild tinnitius in one (maybe both?) ears, its a very soft ringing, that I can only hear if I really listen.

My Biggest questions are :

1) What has caused this ??? My ENT does not know. And its got me stumped as to what caused this loss ? Could it be loud noise exposure? Childhood illness such as mumps etc?

2) Is there any medical procedure to improve those frequencies that are low ? say even better them by 5-10db ?

Thanks for your time in reading this.
