My mother is a heavy smoker - 72 years of age - and has COPD. In the last several months she has had a dry cough - unrelated it seems to me to the "smoker cough." I took her to our family physician and he did a chest x-ray. It came back on Friday as "Nodule density in right upper lung." The dr is on vacation so we don't see him until next Monday. The nurse did tell us that they will want a CT scan. She has had no other problems with cancer. What do you make of this finding? Thank you!

Hi Ry953- Sorry it took me so long to reply to you, we are not ignoring you, honestly! I hope everything turns out ok with your Mom. Unfortunately, I can not answer your question. If you go on teh internet and do a search on "nodule density", you will probably find a lot of information. If you need any help searching, let me know, I will be glad to help you.

Thank you for your response, Renee! I take my mom today to talk with her dr about the x-ray results. We should know more then. The nurse did tell me he would want to do a CT scan.

Thanks, Renee!

We just got back from the dr's office. He thinks what mom has is a noncancerous nodule - possibly from fungus in our area - which he says is very common. We have a CT next week. But it's looking good!!

Hi Ry, Glad to hear the nodule appears to be infection.

My hubby is going through the same thing a small nodule

was found on cat scan and the doc thinks its infection.

There is still a chance of cancer so he is getting another

cat scan on the 15th. I am in Ohio and my aunt and a

cousin { both smokers } had a nodule that was caused

from pigeon poo. The area you live makes a big difference

I am told. Good luck to you and mom you are in my

thoughts. {Keep us updated} Haylee
