For september though december I had the most foul smelling loose oily stools on a daily basis and extremely strong smelling urine. I kept trying to change my diet around to see if it made any changes.... nothing changed.... I would get horrible stomach cramping and have to rush to a bathroom, praying i would get there in time. Also, i would get a sharp pain in my back to the right of the lower spine. At times I would be up all night having repeated bowel movements. Then in january, i took basically all fat out of my diet (though i didn't eat a lot of fat in the first place) and my stools became semi normal.... not as bad smelling and much more formed. I went to the doctor in january for a physical and mentioned all this to her. She thought it was my gall bladder.... so she had some tests done on me and found nothing wrong. I don't want to pay for more medical tests only to find out there is nothing wrong with me. I know something is not right and was thinking it might be IBS....though a part of me still thinks it really is the gall bladder, regardless of what the tests say. I eat really healthy, but I eat vegetables and fruit in moderation, as these give me horrible diarrhea. Keeping well hydrated is an issue also!!! Any ideas of what this could be???? Any specific tests I should ask for??? I don't know anyone else who has these issues that I can ask.... thanks!!!!

Hey gals, this all sounds to familiar, let me know what you find out! I had a bowel movement/diahrea last night that as well looked oily. I am trying to keep track of what i eat or don't eat as of now to see if anything changes but i have found it doesn't matter. I have thought my gallbladder or my liver possibly as i get discomfort in that area often but tests show nothing as well but what can you do! I never really had problems i swear until having my thyroid removed also so i talk to other that have suggested that as well.
Take care, Monkey

The oily stools sounds like malabsorption problem. A stool sample is needed for them to detect this problem.
they also say with malabsorption the stool has a foul smelly odor to it.
there is a medical name for this, but I can't remember it.
your body might not be disgesting your food properly which is called malabsorption. are you losing any amount of significant weight unintentionally?
this is another sign of it.
it's not celiac disease which can come pretty close to the same symptoms.
I think my malabsorption was sugars. I wasn't able to digest it.
I had to take some type of enzyme pills for it.
I can't recall now since this was years ago what exactly the name of the pill is.
just thought I might suggest this to you so you can be checked out for this.
I wish you the best outcome.

I'm up all night last 5 nights with diarroeah too. I feel exhausted and have mild cramping and gas. My stool are exactly as you are describing... bitty, lightish in colour and undigested food (sorry).
Im having my colonoscopy next monday and dreading it, but i seriously cannot go on like im doing now. I have no blood in my stool, and im not losing weight either, but i cant seem to for a normal stool at all right now.

worrybucket, don't worry the colonoscopy isn't that bad really! I guess i might be back to square one i haven't gone in almost four days and i am trying to keep up with all of it but it's been hard i know it's been a few days and i was going like every day if not more and now nothing ugh. I have been eating good ect. and i am wondering where i all this poo is going or sitting ugh. I just started my fiber supplements again as maybe i'm just not getting enough fiber and being constipated some then this will help when it does decide to do it's thing. I really don't feel constipated as of yet but i know in time thats what will happen if i don't go soon! I hope all goes well and keep us posted! P.S. I think i have forgotten what exactly a normal stool is with all this!

I forgot to say that YES, the symptoms you are having resembles the symptoms of IBS.
My gastro dr. told me over the phone after I had gone to the emergency room with the most painful spasms in my stomach up to my diagphram. every time I moved it would send off another spasm. even the car ride to the ER was excruciating from going over bumps. when the nurses touched my distended stomach I hit the roof. they also felt my back which also hurt me.
they thought I was having an attack of a stone.
when they did a test, they found out I was filled up to my chest with stool.
I didn't know it was that bad, because i had been going to the bathroom on and off weekly. it wasn't like I wasn't going to the bathroom at all.
so I called my gastro office and reported what had happened and I thought he would at least want me to come into the office to be checked. he only told me what to take over the counter and told me he's pretty sure I have IBS.
I find that eating fiber can make things worst for my movements and seems to bind me even more.
certain foods worked at first to help me go. it was green apples,(granny smith) , fresh peaches ( when they're in season) and dried prunes right from the box. In the book "The Good Earth, by "Pearl S. Buck", there was a part in the story where a man was selling peaches by the road side and he said to the passerby that peaches were a form of cleansing the body. Something to that effect because I read the book so long ago and can't remember word to word. But I did find it surprising and this is why it stuck it's stuck in my memory.
thought I'd share this bit of information with you. I forgot to mention this in my last post.

linte, thanks for the info, now i'm going back to only going about once a week and the only way i went this week so far is a took the fiber tablet and the next day i went big tim. I got my GI appt. rescheduled just to be sure if i go wiothout going for a week again as that part concerned them. The crappy part of all this is i'm eating so healthy and have been as well, but the scary thing is noone has examine the cause of why i'm losing so much weight and i'm keeping a record on that as well argh. How did they find out you were backed up all the way to your chest? Hope all is well

Hey Monkey,
sorry to take so long to reply to your question. The Emergency dept. did a CT-Scan of my abdomen and chest area. that's how they saw how far up I was filled.
I forgot to also mention to you when I too lost a significant amount of wait unintentionally. my gastro dr had me peform a test where you give a stool sample and the lab test's the speciman to see if there's fat in it.
if there is, which it was with mine, they call it malabsorption. I wasn't able to absorb sugars or something like that. it was so far ago I can't recall that well what it was I wasn't able to absorb.
this caused my fast weight loss.
the treatment is supplements to help digest the food properly.
do a search on malabsorption.
not malnutrition, there's a big difference in the two.
by the way, have you found out your diagnosis yet being you wrote you post a while back?
let me know if you have.
I'm very curious to see what is the cause of your problem,
sincerely,
LInda

Hey linda, thats okay! I haven't figured out totally what the issue is but i do knowthat some of this could be do too me getting to much thyroid meds for a long time. Because before i seen a GI I was increased on my meds by mistake and it i think i feel caused all my constipation, although my last visit to the MD stated i feel very full in the upper and abdominal area and sound very gassy. II am still following up with the GI next week or so just to be sure! I recenly started a lower dose of my meds and am hoping to feel even better soon!
