questions??? You said how you were in a flat plane splint.....That is what I have been given. Now he made me a temporary one of sorts right in his office because my mouth won't open big enough right now to do teeth impressions to make a permanent splint, nor does he want to do anything that could make this extreme flare up worse. Anyway, it is level on the top and then fits snugly over the bottom teeth. He does have me come in about every 2 or 3 days to check my bite on it and adjust it if need be. The day he made it, as I was driving home from his office I began to feel a difference! I was wondering about this though.........I have my own long story and this is not my first splint but this time things are MUCH worse.......Although the pain is about gone except for an occasional twinge, and the muscle spasms have decreased a great deal, I still have bouts where they really spasm and my nose and lips get all numb and my ear closes. Will this go away in time? Is it normal for things to have improved drastically but to still have these little episodes? I am eating with this in my mouth also, which really means I can only eat soup, applesauce, noodles, things like that.......chewing on it actually makes things bad, and it wears out my jaw to try and chew with this plate between my teeth. This awful flare up was caused by a year of worthless dental work and a dentist who didn't know a thing about TMJ like she claimed she did. Thanks for any info and encouragement you can give.

Hey - hope I'm not invading on personal chat here, however I noticed you had a flat-plane splint. I have one too that I've been using for a year now at night (it's just like yours). How often do you use it? Where do you go for treatments? I'm very interested!! :)

HI Dana,
No private chat, just a question :)

I wear my splint 24/7, even when I eat. The only time I take it out is to brush my teeth and then I make sure as to not let my teeth touch. The dentist I am going to now is Dr. Hazelrigg, he is a dmd and he is WONDERFUL. I saw him today and he adjusted my splint again. He has been so helpful, in fact when I told him I was not able to eat anything yet he really worked on my back teeth area and told me to give it a try tonight. I did I had nothing hard or chewy but a normal meal with my splint in and I have not had any problems, so I am praying he got things leveled down a bit. Good luck and I would like to hear about your splint.
Karen
