hey guys,

just a quick question i would really appreciate a few different opinions on this please.
today i got frustrated trying to remove all my poligrip super and decided to try seabond pads. well .... the pads were very uncomfortable for me, to the point that i took them out in about 20 minutes. is this normal for anyone else ? i made sure to trim the pads to a perfect fit, spent about 30 minutes prepping them in fact. anyone know if this discomfort will subside as i heal more or maybe what would be the cause of it ? needless to say i returned to the poligrip super heh which provides me excellent adhesion and great comfort, just ... UGH !!!!! SO MESSY !!!!!

thanks much,
Shantox73 =)

I use the Seabond pads on my lowers and Fixodent on my uppers. I've tried the Polygrip, didn't like it. The Seabond pads work for me on my lowers because they are too big. I have immediate dentures and my gums have shrunk quite a bit. I know I should go back to the dentist and have a soft reline done again, but the stuff tastes terrible and as long as the pads work, I'm using them. I've got about three more months to go before I can get my permanents done so I'm just biting the bullet (excuse the pun) until then.

Hi, I'm new to this board, and actually new to dentures as well - 3 weeks today to be exact!!! I have tried every single adhesive on the market...I hated the Fixodent paste, the cleanup was so messy and gooey - I also tried the Sea Bond Pads - they definately made the denture fit differently, almost as if my bite was off - however, I did find them helpful when I had a sore spot on the top of my mouth - they almost acted like a bandaid until I could get to the dentist and have it adjusted. I like the Fixodent powder...by far the best - not messy at all - holds well - this has my vote....I bought 3 of them as it seems to be a little harder to find than the paste! Hope this helps.

How is the hold with the powder. I don't really like the paste either but it holds really well, almost too well sometimes as I have a devil of a time getting my uppers out at night, they are really stuck.

Truthfully, I don't know that the powder holds as well as the Fixodent or Polygrip cream, but it's MUCH less messy and has no taste. I've only used the cream once and hated it....moved right on to trying the others and find I like the powder the best. I don't find I have any trouble taking the denture out with the powder....so maybe that means it doesn't hold as well, since getting the denture out with the paste is nearly impossible?!?! Either way, for me, it does the job. Just had my first relign, and what a difference in the way it fits! I don't need to use adhesive at all at the moment, but do so because it makes me feel a little bit more confident - it also helps in being able to bite with your front teeth if you have adhesive....not that I'm eating corn on the cob or biting into apples, but I can bite into a soft sandwich with the adhesive, can't do that without it - the dang thing lifts in the back!!! Each day it does get better though......and I'm still glad that I did it! :cool:

I've had full dentures for a little over 3.5 years and have tried many of the products out there. I feel fortunate that for everyday wearing of my teeth I do not need to use adhesives. I do however appy the fixodent powder to my lower plate for special ocassions like social outings or big presentations at work.
For newer dentures sometimes the cream products are all that will work since there tends to be big gaps to fill in. When you get either a permanent denture or permanent reline then the powder is the way to go, less messy, easier on your mouth and takes up less space so not as bulky.
For getting the dentures out when adhesive is on them, drink a hot liquid before you want to take your teeth out, that will soften the goop up and they will come out easier. Also rinsing your gums with warm water will help clean them off.

I have also already tried everything that wal-mart sells. Polygrip with the ultra fresh breath freshener in it leaves a bad bitter after taste in just a few minutes. I have had better luck with Fixadent powder on top and fixadent original cream on bottom. I also like using the Sea Bond - Denurite reline kit. Has anyone else tried it ? It actually works better for me than the temporary reline the dentist did. I ask the dentist on my last appointment would it be all right to use it over his reline since in had already gotten looser. He said it would be alright he just didn't think it would stick very well. He was wrong. The reline last about 4 to 5 days and when I went to peel the denurite out his reline started coming out with it. Has a time getting it all out of there. I was scared I was going to break my dentures. Once it was all out I relined them with the sea bond denturite and now they fit pretty good.

How often do you have to use the Seabond reline stuff?

The package says it last about a week. It will get looser during those days. The only problem with it is it's not as easily removed as the package indicates. It shows them easily lifting it from the dentures to change. It take way more scraping away than that to get it all back off. I used it before I got them relined at the dentist. One more down side is the fizzing kind of denture cleaning tablets seems to erode it some. It's softer and more comfortable than the reline the dentist does. You get two applications in a package.
