I've never been diagnosed but I think I have what you described. I am not in bed now because I am in so much pain. I would like to ask you a few questions if I may.
First my pain is a dull, burning pain. If I accidentally touch my ear or pull on the skin on my neck or face, like when I wash it I get an intense jabbing pain. If I hit my ear hard by accident, like when I put on a over head shirt or drying my hair with a towel and I forget, then I get this excrusiating pain that last for 30-60 seconds,,,,,,then after it subsides, then within 15-30 minutes all my pain is gone. I can touch my ear without any pain at all. Its like when I hit my ear by accident it turns off the pain after the first horrid minute. Does this sound familar at all to you? Is this what you experience?

I don't know if I explained it right. Are there any new treatments?

thanks for any help or info you can give me.

Hi,
Is it an intense pain or a dull pain? Does hitting your ear cause the pain or stop it?

Anyway, how long has this been going on? Trigemnal neuralgia is an intense often electric shock type feeling in the facial area brought on by merely touching an area of ones face thru face washing, teeth brushing, wind, hair washing, etc. It's duration will vary by patient and usually gets longer in time. If this has been going on for a while I would see a doctor and tell him about your symptoms. A PCP can usually diagnose this, often treat it, sometimes they will refer to a neurologist.
Treatments usually begin with medications.

Is the pain in front of your ear? that is where the tn nerve "center" is located.

Hope the pain has subsided by the time you've read this.
Take care,
Ann

Not sure exactly the spot where it is, to me what you are describing sounds like where the top of the tmj joint is....? I just know my neuro told me this and to make sure my heat pad went all the way up to the front of my ear.
