hi,

i'm new to the boards, and hoping someone can help me out. i noticed a week or so ago, that if i closed my right and blink my left eye, that sometimes (not always) i can see a small spot, but it quickly goes away. it's most obvious in the morning when i wake up, and i can see it when blinking both eyes sometimes. it is very subtle and mostly appears indoors with the lights on, but not in the dark or outside in the bright sunlight. i have a floater in my left eye that is a thread, and one in my right that is a little spot. i'm nearsighted, (r:20/425 and l:20/450) i went to the opthamologist just a couple days ago and was told that my eyes were fine, and they know about the floaters, but i'm wondering if anyone else has experiences this spot when i blink? is it a flasher? please let me know!

thanks,
eliza

I have the same thing. I've seen floaters and flashes for a long time, and my Optometrist said he didn't see anything wrong with my eyes. Finally I went to a retinal specialist just to make myself feel better, and he said everything is fine. I mentioned the spot I see when I blink (after he examined my eyes) and he said it's probably a floater and didn't seem concerned. I've never heard of a floater like this but he's a retinal specialist so I trust him. Not sure what else it could be if he didn't see any retinal tears or problems. It still bugs me though!

I experienc ethe same sort of thing sometimes. My theory is that some spots on your eyes might, for whatever reason, begin transmitting data slower than others, leading to a lag time in visual processing in the affected area, hence the spot when you blink. Make sure to check and make sure it is present in only one eye. If you close one eye, and blink the other, is it present? Do the reverse, still present. If so, this could speak of something going on farther back in your brain. Either way, I wouldn't stress it too much.

i experienced a spot that lasted for one day and did not move. it was more like circle with a dark center an illuminated outline actually. this was a few months ago. as of four days ago i am now experiencing a shimmery light in my right eye. i've never experienced anything that lasted more than a few minutes before the spot i had a few months ago. and this new development is worrying me. esp with all the posts i've read about retinal detachment. i'm 28yo and a moderate dry eye sufferer. i had migraines in high school.
