Hi,

I had my primary done by Pastorek seven years ago. While I was happy with the aesthetic results, I was also left with a collapsed nasal valve problem, that compromises my breathing and is very annoying. I didn't even consider going back to him for a revision, since his original surgery had caused the problem in the first place. Also, I've just read in New York Magazine that he was the surgeon operating on Olivia Goldsmith (author of First Wives' Club) when she died at the Manhattan Ear, Eye, and Throat hospital. Of course, her death may not have been his fault, but it still makes you think.

can you explain what a collapsed nasal valve is and how do you know if you have one?

Collapsed nasal valve occurs when too much cartilage is removed during a rhinoplasty, causing a breathing obstruction. Basically, when I inhale the walls of my nose collapse inwards, making it difficult to breathe normally. From what I've read online, this happens with some frequency after a primary rhinoplasty.
