I was wondering if you were being treated with muscle relaxers and not just pain meds. This new dentist I am going to prescribed me Skelaxin and told me to take 2 at a time, he said you have to break the cycle of the muscles spasming all the time in order to alleviate the pain. He also gave me a strong narcotic pain med, but he is right, when I get the muscle spasms to quiet down the pain level goes WAY down. I was just wondering if you are taking something like that for you muscles?

heidi,
My tmj is muscular in nature too, but still, the splint therapy has been what has pulled through. The key for me since it is muscular is to have a level plane splint......one that is not notched out on the top ( splint is on lower teeth ) to fit your upper teeth. It is just a flat platform that catches all of my teeth at the same time. It has been the one that has worked best. I have had many different ones and this one seems to be finally doing it, along with muscle relaxers and like I had mentioned in another post anxiety medication.
