What test are run to tell if you have cancer? I have been sick for 9 months with dizziness/spaciness and in that time I have had to CBC's. Would a CBC tell them if I had cancer in another part of my body. I dont mean to sound paranoid but they have yet to diagnose me and it is starting to worry me. I feel a lot better today than I did in June but I have more symptoms now. Like hot/cold tingley feelings in back, shoulders and arms. For the last 4 days I feel like I have to urinate when I set down and I get this dull pain in my left flank off and on. This is the fourth time I have had these frequency and urgency problems. It is the first time I have had a pain in kidney.

It does not help that I smoked for 12 years, quit and dipped for 7 years and I have quit that and started back smoking for last year. I would love to kick this habit!

There are many different types of cancer. Each with their own varying symptoms; some mimicing others. And there are as equally many diagnostic tests for each one. No, a blood test will not tell you that you have cancer. It can point to an abnormality somewhere, that would give a doctor an "idea" that something was off, and then they could start a battery of tests to rule things out. Medicine is not an exact science. It's essentially trial and error. IE: Do this test, if it's negative, try that test. If that test is negative, move onto the next one.

Hot/cold tingly feelings could be anything. Sounds nerve related to me. I know after I hurt my back I got all kinds of "tingly" feelings in my back, neck and down my left arm. The tissue inflammation was so extensive that it was squishing the nerves in the area. It reached a point where my left hand was growing progressively more and more weak and almost paralysed. I went to a chiropractor and he adjusted my back and "released" some of the pressure on the nerves and I got feeling back into my hand. Prior to that it was kind of numb/hot/cold/tingly.

Dizziness and spaciness could be anything. Lack of sleep; poor sleep; anxiety; stress; depression; low oxygen levels; poor nutrition; side effects from medications; street drugs; diseases like parkinson's, alzheimers; chronic fatigue/epstein barr; mono; fibromyalgia; and a multitude of other diseases/conditions. Also Lyme Disease can mimic a whole host of problems, and it's often something that is not tested for.

I know it's frustrating to be unwell, but don't start jumping to all kinds of "the worse" conclusions. Why worry and speculate about something that you have no control over? Let the doctors perform their testings. Be as honest and as detailed as you can about your symptoms because that will only help the doctor know what tests to do. If you aren't happy with what your doctor is doing, and feel he/she isn't taking you seriously or doing enough to help you get diagnosed, then by all means seek out a different doctor and tell them what tests you have undergone and ask if they have any more insight into what could be done or looked into.
