Hi,

I have worked w/Autistic pre-schoolers for 5 years. You need to start w/very simple interactions, establish eye contact, sing songs (even if the child does not sing w/you), point to pictures in a book, go for walks, talk to the child about the things you see around you...try playing in a sandbox or doing a simple crafts project (you may have to do most of the work)...it is tough, but in time, you will see results.

Good luck!

I agree with everything the previous poster has stated...(I tried to post earlier to you but for some reason the forum was acting up and wouldn't let me post).

If you sing songs, constantly point out things and constantly talk - if the kid stares up at the sky, starting talking about the clouds, the color blue, the birds and planes that fly, how the sky is up and the ground is down - all that talking WILL register in her brain. Just remember that when you think she's not listening and not paying attention and focusing on what you want her to focus on, she in fact IS doing just that. The child will take in every single thing you tell her, she probably just cannot express those things in a way that you would know she's processing them.
