I have a friend who has a baby nearly one year old who was born with a very small head, but it has grown so large that he looks odd, almost like a little alien. They had an MRI done to check for water on the brain, but was negative. Now they seem consoled to the fact that he just has a large head. But I am worried that something is wrong. He is being stared at because of the head size, eyes close together, very wide head at the ears and back and the hair line is way back, not normal at all because the forehead is so big. Could he develop autism by the age of 2 to 3? I would appreciate any input from the readers.

Well, most children with autism actualy look relatively normal. I would be more concerned that there may be some other disorder wrong with the child rather than autism. Is the child showinging any odd behaviours or looking normal for his/her age. Does the child have normal development? I think a lot of this is a wait and see game. There are some disorders that the children are born with microcephaly (small head) that later becomes macrocephaly (large). Then again there are also children that have huge heads that there is nothing at all wrong with them! If the MRI was normal all they can do is wait and see, my child is also one of those wait and see cases too, he has something obviously wrong with him but they cannot do anything until they see how it progresses, and they probably will with this child. Sorry couldnt help more!
