I just recently joined a gym that has the treadmills, bikes, plus all the exercise equipment for legs, stomach, etc. Well, my question is, if I am looking to loose weight, how often should I work out? Also, should I weight train one day then do the treadmill and bike the next? I don't want muscles, I just want to tone and lose a little body fat. I'm about 20 pounds overweight I guess. Anyone have ideas on how to work this? Thank you

If you are looking to lose weight, strength training will help you build muscle which will burn more calories than fat will.

If you can afford it, or if your gym offers a free intial session, talk with a trainer about your goals and what they recommend.

What I do is try and train each body part twice a week with weights (back and biceps day one, legs on day two chest and triceps on day three) then one day off then repreat. I do cardio 2-5 times a week depending on my schedule. I started out just trying to get to 20min on one machine, when I got to 25min on one machine, then I used the Body for Life suggestion of doing a few minute warmup, then upping the speed or resistence once, then a a second time, then a third time, each for one minute intervals, then you step down from the third point, to the second to the first, i do that 3 times, then a few minute warm down. he claims that it's an efficient cardioworkout.
