What are the first things you should do when someone complains of feeling faint and what should be done if they do faint? :)

Matty,
A number of things can cause near faint, or fainting. From extreme anxiety to low blood pressure, etc. First if they feel faint, make sure they lay down, elevate legs so that they are higher than the head. Some will stick their heads between their legs from a sitting position first. Get some cool wet towels and apply around face, neck and back of neck area. Remain calm. Also breathing into a paper bag, if they are in hyperventilation mode. Second, anybody experiencing fainting spells or near faint spells, needs to be checked out by a doctor anyway.

If they faint, normaly they eventually will come too on their own, but still, a doctors visit is a priority. Losing consciencess for however short a time period, or even having near faint spells, needs to be checked out by the doctor. There is an underlying cause for it.

My best friends dad was taken to the hospital last wk. but the family said he had passed out when his wife gave him his insuline. But he told the dr. that he fakes fainting for a practical joke. Which I don't think is very funny. Is there any way for the family to check to see if he is faking it when does do this. They would really like to surprise him with a few little things too. hehehe. Any advice would be helpful

My best friends dad is diabetic and has his good & bad days. Last wk his wife gave him his insulin shot and he passed out. Well other things came up with him so they took him to the hospital, when they arrived at the hospital the dr. wanted to run some other test since he passed out but he told the dr he faked his fainting spell as well as many other times too. of course the family was very up set with him for doing this. So they were wondering how to tell if he is faking it, ANY IDEAS FOR US ? His joking and playing has gone to far and they want to know when this happens. beside how will they ever know if he really does pass out. bugaboo
