View Full Version : Half of tooth snapped off...

I was eating some Werther's Originals earlier (hard 'candy') and bit into one of them (I usually just suck them so the shrink and get softer!). After I'd swallowed I noticed that the front of one of my teeth had gone with it!

Now, this particular tooth was pretty much a shell. I think I may have had a root canal done on it (I live in the UK and, because I'm a student and don't have to pay for dental treatment at all - as well as there being the NHS here - I would probably not have realised), but I'm not sure. Basically, the dentist gave me a temporary filling first to help calm the nerve, then when I went back I had the injection and then he was doing something and told me not to move (I just assumed he was putting something really hot into my mouth for some reason!). I think he held it there for a little while or something and then filled it in with 'silver' filling (as the whiter versions wouldn't have been strong enough), so my tooth is pretty much a shell.

Well, anyway, the fron of my tooth and possibly a little of the filling has come away. However, me and my boyfriend were examining it earlier and we noticed that there was something white-ish there, and we were wondering what it could be - do you have any ideas?

Thanks!

I don't know of any dentist that uses the silver filling on front teeth. But I could be wrong. Maybe the white-ish stuff you see is actually a compostie filling. (the white one) Could you call you dentist and ask what type of filling was used?

You might be able to get a crown for that tooth. (or cap or whatever is used for the front teeth.) But if it bothers you as to what the white-ish stuff is, I'd call the dentist that did the work and ask. Just for peace of mind.
