So I managed to blow out the nerve going to my Trapezious muscle. This happened about 6 months ago. I ended up waiting 4 to go to the doctor because I was clueless on the damage that was done. It got to the point where I couldnt even pick up a book over my head without straining. Anyway long story short a few MRI's and EMG's later I am haveing a de-compression and a possible nerve graph done on Wednesday. I would like to hear from someone who has been through something similar or knows someone who has. I am really nervous about the surgery as this is my first time to be put under and operated on. Due to the extent of damage EMG tests read 0 activity from the muscle, surgery was my only opition to get it fixed. BTW the EMG tests were not so bad. The pain I felt was uncomfortable and lasted for 10-30secs at a time but was bearable. The first one I has lasted an hour but only 20mins was actual testing.

Well it was my first time having surgery of any kind. Let me tell you if I didnt have my parents there (Im 26 as well =) ) I would had bolted! haha anyway yes I wont lie it is scarey when it comes time. But rest assured that the doctor's certainly know what they are doing. The worst part of the whole surgery was the 2 hours before it happened, waiting. After it was over I had releatively minor pain but all in all I never even took a pain pill! I was left with a 8 inch incsion on my neck which is healing nicely, and I have full control over my trap muscle again! I am very glad i went through it like you will be after it is over. The worst part is the wait. Good luck there!

I have damage to my spinal accessory nerve and was told a nerve graph was the only way to get this fixed. You mentioned a "de-compression" which I have not heard of?
