Could you describe your symptoms more than just sensitivity? You can deal with it usually by getting glasses with light filters on em, or wear sunglasses, thats what I do...

I can't believe someone else has this same symptom as me. I've had photophobia for 2 years & it's not getting any better. I can't even go into a store for more than a few minutes, because I get dizzy from the flourescent lights. I got tinted glasses last year & anti-glare, and that didn't help much either. I went on ***** site the other day, and this eye doctor said to ask for neutral density filters for your glasses. I called a few places & they never heard of them. I'm going to make an eye doc appt. for next week to see if where I go they know anything about them. I can't even work anymore, can you? Every office or store has flourescent lighting. Please let me know if you find out anything that would help, thanks, Barb

Thanks for the reply Greenman & Barbarosa. My husband has been suffering for three and a half years know with severe dry eyes.It seems he can handle that to some extent, but it is the photosensitivity that is really getting him down.He was a member of a volunteer fire department for 22 years but had to resign because he can't drive anymore at night! He has had punctal plugs put in his lower lids but they didn't help at all.He even had botox shots around his eyes because of his constant blinking. When asked if he wanted the shots again,he declined. When he goes outside he wears 2 pairs of sunglasses. We live in northern minnesota and we burn wood in the winter time. This winter when we went out to cut wood, his light sensitivity was so bad that he had to put welding goggles on to do his cutting. He doesn't read the paper anymore,he doesn't go on the computer anymore and if he wants to try to watch the t.v.,he puts his welding goggles on!! Can you imagine sitting in the living room and looking over at a person wearing welding goggles while they are watching t.v.? He says if he could just get help with this light sensitivity thing,he would settle for the dry eyes.I feel really bad for him.His quality of life has really gone down the tubes. Those glasses you were mentioning sounds like something worth looking into.We will continue to seek help, somewhere, and hopefully get this solved. I can only hope you's find help too. I will post anything I hear that might help all of you's suffering from this same thing. Enona

Well, I was diagnosed as having iritis, and the more I read about it, the worse I feel. He should see an opthamologist who can use a slit microscope to see what is going on in the eyeball.

To Operationz,we have seen 4 opthamologists in the last 3 years. Can't seem to get a handle on it. Enona

photosensitivity is often a symptom of cataracts.

My eyes are very photophobic because of dryness. I wear glasses, so I get transition lenses. They turn from light to dark in bright light. It takes about 2 or 3 minutes for them to change.

I agree. Appears time to revisit the eye md.

I also have extreme light sensitivity. I went to the eye doctor & just ordered grey tinted glasses. I have pink tint with anti-glare now, but it really doesn't help that much. So, maybe this will help alittle, if not I don't know what to do after this. He said transition lenses won't help, because they lighten up indoors and I have trouble with flourescent lighting, not sunlight. Good luck everyone, Barb
