Had my three week check up yesterday. Went great. He did some adjusting. It feels so great now!!! Wasnt having any problems but when he adjusted they seemed to fit even better. I did question my dentist as to why some people have problems with them getting really really loose and have to use adhesives. But that i wasnt having that problem. He explained that a lot of that has to do with the palate and how much suction there is. He said that I have a really deep palate so there is more space there to create more suction. I think he called it a deep valley. When holding the denture in my hand. The rounded part of my denture that goes into the roof of my mouth is way taller than the actual teeth part of the denture. he told me that he is planning on Sept to make the permanent set. Woohoo!! cant wait. He said he wants to make sure that everything is completely healed before he starts that process. I dont have to go back for 6 wks. But was told to call his office if I have any problems. Finally feel like the denture belongs in my mouth. I can talk, eat a lot more every day, and smile like crazy. This was the best decision I have ever made. Has really made a difference in my life. Yesterday my hubbys co-worker told him, "wow dena sure does smile a lot now" he told them I have always been a happy go lucky person but havent been able to smile so now everbody is now seeing her for who she really is a happy beautiful woman. Made me blush! What a wonderful feeling. :D Thanks for all the support and all really makes a difference having others that can relate to the same things. Sincerely Dena

Dena, I am so so happy for you! You are truly an inspiration to everyone on this board. As Jennifer says, you have a great attitude and I am trying to follow you with that! I have my second appointment tomorrow and although I am terrified, I am not as petrified as I was last week on my first one. The Dentist was very kind and even though he may have been horrified, he didn't show it. He just did a clean up on my bottom teeth and chatted to me about the problems. I know he was just easing me into the situation since I had never been to a dentist in my life before. Tomorrow he will do a clean up on the tops but they are so discoloured and crooked, especially the front four, that I think drastic action will be needed and I doubt if they can be saved. I am really trying to cultivate a positive attitude because I know noboday can do it but myself and I am doing it for myself! I long to be able to smile and reading your post brought a happy tear to my eye for you! Since I have opened up about my problem, so many people have told me their secrets that they have dentures or implants or partial dentures or missing back teeth or the like! I am amazed because truly, I could never have told by looking at any of them. Last night I went to theatre with my husband and my brother and his partner! My brothers partner confided that all her tops are dentures! Another revelation and it proves that it is not the end of the world, doesn't it?! My brother is delighted I am finally doing something about it for myself and he says he looks forward to the day that I will actually laugh at his jokes instead of just closedmouthedly grinning and pretending they are not that funny anyway! My brother said that I look like a junkie with these teeth and he has only noticed how bad they are recently. I can understand that because in recent months they have changed from a yellowy to a browny colour! I wouldn't mind if I was a junkie but I don't even smoke!!!! It' horrible though that a lot of people could now be thinking this about me. Anyway, let them! It's onwards and forwards in my venture to get a decent smile!
All the best
Claire xxx

Hi Dena,
I have been following your progress and just realized that you are had our extractions/dentures done just 4 days apart. I was glad to hear that your 3 week appt. went well - I was curious to know if your dentist has done a soft relign yet??? I had mine done at the 3 week mark and it made a huge difference in the fit. I also wanted to know if you are still having issues with dry lips??? Mine seem to be better, but I'm still using ALOT of Chapstick - just wondering if you ever found a better solution....otherwise, like you, my problems have been minor - more annoyances than anything else, but nothing I haven't been able to live with - I've had 2 sore spots on the palette, but minor adjustments have solved it - I also have that 'floating' feeling that you describe but using adhesive helps me - and I definately prefer the powder - it doesn't seem to be as irritating, messy or bulky as some of the others I've tried.
Continued good healing and success with your denture - isn't it wonderful to have a smile that you're proud to show off??? I am thrilled that I finally did this - so much so that I now wish I hadn't let fear keep me from doing it 5 years ago!!! BIG SMILES TO YOU! :D

Sheesh, I really butchered that first line of type!
What I meant to say was: "I have been following your progress and just realized that you and I had our extractions/dentures done just 4 days apart"
That's what I get for not using spell check.....
you'd think I had one too many glasses of wine tonight!!!

Good Morning val, Chego, Jenn, and my friend Lee, Doing pretty good this morning. YEAA!! Let's see yes I am still having problems with the dry lips havent found anything better than chapstick so far. Well except at night. This will sound a little gross but it actually helps. I use vaseline on my lips at night when I am sleeping. Its a lot thicker than chapstick seems to stay longer and it doesnt have a taste unless you lick your lips and doesnt take but once or twice and you wont do that anymore lol. So I tend to leave em alone with vaseline on em lol. Only use it at night though I know my hubby doesnt want a vaseline kiss lol.
I did have the soft reline on my 3 wk mark. It really made a huge difference. Made them feel more like they belonged in my mouth lol. I am not using any adhesive just yet. But I feel it coming lol. Noticed last night at dinner they were moving a little bit lol. My dentist told me that I have a very very deep palate so the suction is greater that may be why I havent had to use adhesives yet. When i hold my denture in my hand the palate part sticks up above the teeth a good two inches. I wish there was some way of sharing pics with this site. I have taken quite a few of my dentures, and before and after pics but dont know of any way of sharing. I tried to share with another poster and she ended up getting banned so I wont try that again.
Had chili cheese fries for dinner last night had no problems and so YUMMY!!
Well everybody keep smiling and posting. I will thats for sure nice to be able to relate to others going thru the same thing. I have had total support from my family and those that I have met on this site. And a lot of people i know have had work done too like you all have said you dont realize until they start talking about their experiences. The only one person I have a problem with is a sis in law. She is new to the family and doesnt understand. She thinks I have been to chicken to get this done for years. Thats not the case I would have done this a long time ago mine has always been a money thing. It costs so darn much I couldnt afford it. Now dont get me wrong I was one scared lady going into all this, didnt know what to expect, I dont handle pain well at all lol. I will cry in a minute lol. But since she doesnt understand that she is always telling me I am proud you finally got the courage to do it. And just goes on and on. But I dont hurt her feelings I just go with the flow lol. But anyways I think I have rambled enough lol Have a Great DAY :D Dena
Thanks for all the wonderful compliments. Together we can all get thru this with a new smile, and new attitude about ourselves!!!! Dont worry BE HAPPY!!! :jester:

Sounds like you are making the adjustment very well. It is amazing as the days go by how what was a problem yesterday is no longer an issue and looking to the future there will be fewer and fewer issues. As for your sister in law- she has not had to endure dental problems or if she has, they have been minor or the resources have always been there for her. Don't ever worry about what others think - there are many reasons why a person has to get dentures- the number one being self improvement- never look back!
