I have a couple of questions. I have had a broken tooth for about 4 years now and I am going to the dentist tomorrow. My question is can a broken infected tooth cause dizzyness, off balance and last night I had terrible shooting pain in the top of my head and my ear hurt as well. My husband also wakes me up several times a night because I am grinding my teeth. Please tell me that all this is because of a bad tooth.

Worry

I believe an infected tooth can cause all of those symptoms...and many more! You're doing the right thing in getting yourself to the dentist to have it taken care of. I would address the teeth grinding issue with the dentist too - he can probably give you a night guard to wear while you're sleeping.
Don't let you're mind run away with the 'things that might be causing your symptoms' - I would venture to bet that it's the tooth causing your problems-
however, if the problems don't correct themselves after you've been to the dentist....I would see your M.D.
Lots of luck. :D

It actually sounds, to me, that the grinding might be causing the dizzyness and pain! Go to the TMJ board where there are many examples of this. Pehaps you're grinding because of the broken tooth or the grinding oover time caused the tooth to weaken and break! That's what I was doing to my teeth until I had a bite plate made to protect my teeth at night. I also get some dizzyness, headaches, and ear pain. Please don't worry, it doesn't sound serious. Let us know how your visit to the dentist goes..
