Thank you. I hope to learn a lot here. I am researching as much as I can as I have just suffered quietly for many years. My poor wife. She doesn't understand but then neither do I. I am in a pain management and have a great dentist who does understand.
Thanks again for the welcome.

Hi again

I often wonder if this may be what I have. I try not tothink about it to much because I know my stuff is small potatoes compared to others.

Hi again

I am just curious...has anyone done the grinding for so long that it weakens the teeth? I think because of this consistant grinding that I do at night that it is the reason I had a tooth break clean off at the gum.

Has this happend to anyone?

Thanks

Hi there and welcome! Yep, I can relate to wearing down the teeth due to excessive grinding/clenching. I was diagnosed with TMD initially about 15 years ago, and probably actually had it much longer. I'm just now getting into Phase I treatment with a bite splint 24/7. I lost a molar one day about 4 years ago biting into a turkey sandwich, and the dentist and my orthodontist have said the wear on my teeth is incredibly bad; in fact the ortho is surprised that I don't have more than 1 crown and that no other teeth have fractured.

I grind my teeth so bad I get a head ache. I don't just do it at night either. I can't stop myself. I have done it for years but it seems to be getting worse.
Thanks everyone for the warm welcome. Hope to meet and converse with everyone here. I have spent a lot of time reading.

In a word, yes! do you wear a night guard, it may not help the grinding but it could protect the teeth if you do not clench as well.

Talking about teeth damage, that was calling my name! I have had two broken top molars, I have had three molars on the bottom pulled because of severe breakage and I just had a crown put on a broken molar. ( which is what started this flare up after several years of control ). I also clinch, but am working on that. Xanax has really helped me and I am only taking one in the morning. My dentist said alot of people carry all of their stress in their jaw......
Good luck to all and hope you are finding support here dan....
