a couple months ago I thought I just was having a toothache.......and I recieved antibiotics and they did not even help. the pain in my jaw was unbearable...it was deep into my ear..along my jaw and up the side of my head....NOTHING took the pain away.....not even Percocet....motrin 800 worked best.... It lasted about 1 and 1/2 weeks....and it mostly flared up when I layed down....not ON it...but just laying down. The pain was SO intolerable!!!! It went away by itself...........now it is back......went to the dentist because I do have a yucky wisdom tooth back there........but he tried me on 2 diff antibiotics.....and put me on LortaB 10/650 <---i TOOK 2 AND IT DIDNT EVEN TOUCH THE PAIN!!! Last night it was fine and I went to lay down for bed and it flared up.....I wanted to cut my head off!!! and it has been doing that EVERYday. It gets to the point of my jaw....inner ear...side of face and head hurts SOOOO bad.
please, any input????
if it sounds like TMJ....can the dentist find out and how? how is it treated???
ASAP reply.....
thank you!!!
Sharon

It could be tmj, it also sounds a bit like trigeminal neuralgia which often begins with a toothache that has no decay. Or perhaps you need your wisdom teeth out? your dentist should be able to tell if it is tmj or a wisdom tooth problem., a regular doctor trig. neuralgia. A tmj specialist would treat the tmj, a neurologist the t.n., or an oral surgeon the wisdom tooth. Please seek treatment so you will feel better, take care, ann
