View Full Version : Jojoba oil

I bought some jojoba oil per the recommendation of a couple posters. I like that it moisturizes but does not feel heavy. My question is this: I have been using it about a week. How long before my face feels hydrated? It still feels dry and looks tight by days end and I have some small dry spots. I typically put it on twice a day, in the morning after shower/before make-up and at night before bed. I only wash my face once a day. I have been using Aveeno balancing bar for cleansing because it doesn't irritate it but still takes care of the blackheads/acne. Now I am wondering if it is too drying. But I don't want anything too perfumed or heavy because of my sensitive skin. Any suggestions for this? Thanks so much for all your help! :)

What type of foundation are you using? Are you exfoliating?

The bar soap may be too drying for you - I have really good luck with Aromaleigh cleansers - they aren't drying at all - they contain natural ingredients. But before you try something new, it would help to know what other products you use on your face & any other treatments you do.

Hi,
It was at this site about a year ago, I posted about patches of dry skin on my face and my frustration with all the moisturizers I had used with no help.
I was told to try a good brand of Jojoba oil like you and after a few weeks didn't see much difference. So, I continued using it but completely stopped putting water on my face, no matter how gentle the cleanser and used Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser instead. You just apply it directly to your face working up a gentle lather(no water) and gently wipe off with tissue. I do this twice and that last time leaves a very light film of moisture. Then I put on the jojoba oil and after about 15 minutes or so, go back and use any good quality moisture cream, not lotion. I happen to find that Cetaphil also makes a very good quality moisture cream and purchased that as well.

So I do this in the a.m. and p.m. routinely and if I have been very active during the day or exposed to sun, dust more then usual, I will give my skin a mini-cleaning with the Cetaphil Cleanser and light application of the jojoba oil.
Absolutely no more rough patches, dry skin, making my foundation look very smooth whenever I use it.....Solange

Right now I just have cover girl all-day hydrating foundation. The coverage is just ok but it doesn't dry out like alot of foundations (hate the powder ones). I don't typically exfoliate. I bought a hydroxy mask by swiss ives but have only used it once. I am just afraid of buying anything too harsh because it makes my skin blotchy or I will break out. I used a washcloth on my face two days in a row and it took about four days for the burning/redness to go away. I am very cost conscious when it comes to cosmetics, which is limiting. But if something is excellent and will last awhile I do spend more. Thanks again for your suggestions.

Okay - your skin sounds like my dd's - it tends to be dry, sensitive, & gets dry, scaly patches (eczema) easily. She has to be very careful about what she puts on her face. She was using Cetaphil cleanser on her face, but found that although it didn't make the dryness worse, it wasn't helping it either. She switched to Skin Biology's Gentle Clean cleanser & it has made an amazing difference. She uses jojoba oil with some added essential oils as a moisturizer, and only uses mineral makeup. It seems that the less additives there are in a product, the better it works on her skin. She can't exfoliate with AHA or BHA products or with a typical scrub, but she is able to use home microdermabrasion once a week (using Aromaleigh's microdermabrasion cream). Her skin looks awesome now.

Even people with dry, sensitive skin need to exfoliate - you just have to go about it carefully. And chances are, you need to watch the products you use on your face - fragrance is a BIG culprit in adverse reactions, but there are also other additives that can cause dryness in some people. I would try to get products that are as natural as possible.

Blue-eyed Belle, first let me say thanks again for the help. And a couple more questions. If I am considering the mircrodermabrasion cream from Aromaleigh, do I just need to purchase the tool separately? Are there other creams that will be necessary to complete the process? Also, I went to Aromaleigh's website and found foundation powders. Is this what they offer as an equivalent to liquid foundation?

By the way, I like your sn - I am blue eyed and my younger daughter's mn is Belle.

Actually, you can use the cream without a machine - you can just rub it on with your fingers. I have a Dermanew machine, but I know some ladies who just use their fingers & it works well for them.

I don't think I would try too many new products at once - if there is a reaction, you'll want to know which one is causing the problem. So I would recommend just one new product a month - that should give you enough time to see if there is a problem.

You may want to add other products later - that's just up to you. And yes, the Al powders are their foundation. But those who like a liquid can just add a little powder to their moisturizer & then apply.

LOL - my dd & I are both blue-eyed - and our St. Bernard's middle name is Belle.

Have you heard of the microdermabrasion cloths? I honestly didn't know any of this was available - was actually considering going to have microdermabrasion done. So I am clueless on all this.

My hubby just got a new sander for his b-day??? :D

LOL! ;)

I have heard of the microdermabrasion cloths, but I haven't tried them. I know a lot of people swear by them. I just do the home microdermabrasion & glycolic peels, which seem to be working well.

Years ago before Jojoba oil was here in the states, we used to drive to Mexico and get it. This was on a doctors recommendation, we lived in Arizona so it was always a fun trip.
I used it on my daughters hair, it was extremely dry! But it also was pure oil also. I think we paid $5.00 for a huge bottle of it now you get a few ounces for as much as $12.00 and with fillers.
I still use it on my hair and face at night alternating with other creams at will.
The pure oil is hard to find here but some health stores have it (pure).
Maybe that is why my wrinkles are soft!!!LOL I love it for everything.

You can buy pure organic jojoba oil from a lot of different places online - I just bought 16 oz. of it & paid $10. I use it on my hair, too.

I ordered the aromaleigh microdermabrasio creme. I'm anxious to get it! I'll hold off on anything new until I get a chance to try that and see how it works. Still debating about whether to get a machine or cloth or just use it without.

I found pure jojoba oil at a website I go to to get my supplements. Paid $8 for 8 oz. Had no idea how much it was supposed to cost but looks like it's going to last awhile!

Thank you, I never thought about looking on the net for it, don't know why I find everything else cheaper on the net. :bouncing: Thanks!

Why don't you try it without & then if you think you need more oomph you can get the cloth or the machine? :) (just trying to possibly save you some money)

I think that's what I will do. Plus the fact that my face seems to rebel to washcloths, etc. has me a little nervous to try the cloth or machine.
