Does anyone know if there are any life threatening or serious complications that could occur following the first couple weeks after a stopping the use of methamphetamine. This would apply to a person who is very highly dependent on methamphetamine and who has been using the drug in high doses every day for the past couple years. Also, is there any relation with the long term use of methamphetamine and strange neurological problems such as electrical sensations in the head (kinda like sudden un-predictable jolts in the head accompanied with very high heart rate and maybe a swift jerklike movement thru-out your body and usually occur while laying down but while still awake right before falling asleep and only last for a split second), hyperventalating type breathing problems, numbness in the different parts of the body, and usually occur together after about the first 40-60 hours after having last used methamphetamine or in episodes.
Any advice or information would be very helpful.

All I know is that I was doing almost a gram a day of meth and I was put inpatient for detox and treatment for 45 days. Who knows what was put in the mixture you put into your body. I know withdrawal can cause seizures and long term use can cause brain damage. I never felt much of the symptoms you described but depending on the amount, frequency , and body chemistry we are all different. I would recomend you start with your family dr and go from there. At least so you know what you are dealing with.

When I quit using amphetamines a couple years ago, I had problem exactly like you are describing. The breathing problems and numb, tingling sensations and all that got so bad that I convinced myself that something was horribly wrong, that I had done some kind of permanent damage to myself. I got very anxious and went to several doctors. In my case it turned out that all of the symptoms I was experiencing were caused by anxiety. I was making myself hyperventilate, and the anxiety and hyperventilation was causing a lot of bad symptoms. After almost a year of struggling with the anxiety, it began to get better, and now I am basically fine. You may still want to get your symptoms checked, as they could mean something more serious, but I just wanted to let you know that I know what you are feeling.

Whomever brought up the brain damage is probably right as far as the electric jolts go. I have brain damage from an accident 10 years ago and have the shooting pains. They usually originate in/around my temple and then shoot up my forehead and down my cheek. They're excruciating but only last for an instant. I didn't connect it until reading a downloadable book by a neurologist and it explained it. If you're interested in it, I'll see if I can post it. But, hopefully, the damage isn't permanent. The brain's resiliant and if you know ahead of time, it's better. Research brain injury and self-improvement measures. I wish I had known. Ten years is too late to fix things. Also, depending on which part of the brain is damaged it can cause or aggrivate panic attacks and the episodes you described.
I believe the damage is in the frontal lobes for this. Hope it helps. Good luck.

Hey everyone,
I have never taken amphetamines, just the pain meds, and I have had the brain zaps for awhile. It happens only when I am soooo tired or lying on my back in bed. It is a split second, my body jumps and it is done. Strange! I have looked for info. I have never had a head injury. I have stopped vikes and have been on subox for about 6 months. Interesting. It would work me up too! We will have to check up on this and bring it bak to the board! Have a good one! shell

Hi, I was and am a meth addict, I started at 14 and stopped at 22. I didn't have bad side effects when i was young. Yes I stopped on my own, I have no memory of how. But I gained wright, I went to college and was doing wee, 3.89, and a dealer found me. I was 25 and started again, my live in boyfriend who has known me thru all of my addictions has no clue, i got hooked again. I Have severe pain in my muscles the day after, 2 days later I wake up 3 times a night drenched in sweat. My nervouse system and kidneys and liver are messed up. A couple of months you have played.... end it. It has spread pain all over my body as if I did a marathon, it hurts to lay down. I hate myself for what I do to myself, you have a chance, think of me.
