for those of you who have / have had molluscum:
how long did it take to clear up your original outbreak?
and
did you ever have a reoccurrence? how much later?
i found them in late december, and they were gone by february, and then noticed a new one about two weeks ago, that seems to be going away, but i see little red spots and i freak myself out even though its probably nothing. also, i noticed the new one about 2 days after having sex with someone, do you think they could have gotten it? or is it only from direct contact? does it matter what stage the bumps are at?

I got mine in January and they are still here. It seemed they went away for a few weeks, then I was messing around with someone (just rubbing) and they came back. I think they are transfered by rubbing and the rubbing seems to make them worse. I dont really know a lot more.

Dont freak out too much. Molluscum isnt a 'bad' STD since its only basically called an STD because, well duh, it can be passed sexually. Its not Herpes, or HPV. I had never heard of this until I had an outbreak for the first time, I think, back in Mid February. At first I thought 'oh my god' and was all upset and was starting to really go crazy. Then I did some research and heard from other people who went to their dermatologist and found out that this is actually a quite common thing to happen. Especially in Children and Sexually Active Adults. Hell you can get this from surfaces like just sharing a towel. It doesnt cause you any pain, doesnt itch, burn or anything. It is basically a beignin growth that eventually goes away, up to 9 months in healthy people, and usually doesnt reoccur. Just becareful not to rub them with your hand and rub else where before washing. I had a total of about 17 pop up in my groin area. Some were so small you wouldnt know they were there, plus they are basically skin colored. Yes they do turn red if irritated. When you wake up in the morning take a quick look. I bet you'd hardly be able to notice them. Go to a doctor if they really bother you or start to spread really badly. Otherwise they are considered self-contained, where as you dont need medicine to get rid of them..your body will do it yourself. Me, being stupid let them spread a little so after using Iso Alcohol and Tea Tree Oil on the areas for about a month I finally decided to do one thing that is the most common with doctors as a decision to get rid of them and is even considered something that can be done at home if you are really careful and have the right amount of medical materials with you do it, basically, some cottonballs, Iso Alcohol for sterilization, a fine needle, tweezers and tissue. This procedure is pulling the hard head off of them, which will then allow them to heal. Now they will bleed a good deal so you have to control it and make sure to clean up very well or they could spread. I have to admit, using the Tea Tree Oil for a month helped dry them up and made them easier to peel off. I did this about a week ago on 15 of them and so far so good. A couple have just about disappeared while others are taking a little longer. I dont recommend doing as many as I did but I just had to try. I'm gonna go to the doctor probably in the next few weeks to just see what they say. I know I'm rambling but I've seen so many posts of people freaking out like they have this really dangerous disease when its not dangerous at all...well only cuz it can be spread but thats it. So just ease the minds, keep the area clean with Anti-bacterial soap. Rup a little tea tree oil on them every night before bed and go see a doctor and let your mind relax. STD is a scary word in todays world and even a harmless skin condition like this, with that 'std' title next to it causes people to freak out. Funny part is, 80% of the worlds population has some form of Herpes...ever had a cold sore in your mouth? There ya go :) But you dont hear everyone saying anything about that. Yes some are very serious and should be taken that way but before everyone freaks out just really make sure you know what your dealing with before you lose your mind :) Ok I said my two cents..sorry :) Good luck!

Mine had just gone away except i saw a few small bumps that were kinda red that looked like razor burn, so thats what i thought they were. Well, the guy im dating kinda pressured me into messing around for the first time and I thought they were gone (he doesnt know that I had them). Now this morning i woke up and it looks like I have about 12 of them. Is this possible just from the rubbing we were doing?!?! And he also "went down" on me. Does this mean that he might possibly get them?!? Is it likely that he will get them since none were broke open or anything. I dont know if I could bring myself to telling him that I had these. We've only been dating for a short while and he pressured me into doing stuff. I don't know what to do. I am worried that he might get something, but at the same time i am thinking that he shouldnt have forced himself on me when i said no. I'm so confused.

Hmm tough one. I think you definitely shouldnt had let him go down on you. :nono: Will he get them? I do not know. You usually get them where you were rubbed on at. But since they dont really show up for atleast 6 weeks to up to 6 months ya dont really know. As for them popping up, you might have had them all along but since they were so small and unnoticeable, they just showed up more after all the rubbing. Have ya gone to a doctor or anything? If they keep poppin up you might want to get prescribed Aldara. Are you positive that what your seeing is Molluscum?

Yeah, i have already been through 4 weeks of aldera and it did nothing. The doctors told me it was molloscum. They said there is nothing they can do about it, I just have to wait it out. Well I have been usuing rubbing alcohol, witch hazel, and tea tree oil 2 times a day. They go away but more keep right on popping up. I dont know what to do anymore. Last night I decided to perform some surgery and I popped all 12 of them, with a lot of isoprophyl alcohol right beside me of course. I seemed to get the white head out of most of them, they bled a lot, we will see what happens. I've had these for 4 months now, SO FRUSTRATING!!! and the worse part is that my ex cheated on me and thats how i got them, and his went away really fast and mine are still full blown! ahh! I even got him STD tested before we did anything. I'm so upset :( All I want is to be able to shave without worrying and wear a bikini without worrying about anything anymore. :*(

Yeah thats the weird thing about Molluscum. As far as I know, you cant really get a blood test like you do for othe STD's to get diagnosed. Kinda stinks that they are in the STD category since you can get them from other means but because you can get them sexually, thats where they are. Basically if you have the little bumps and a doctor looks at them, thats the best he can really do. Sometimes they can take a culture but that is extremely rare since its hard to misinterpret these. Yeah I hear you on the frustration. Thats why i popped mine. They will stay red for a little while so dont expect them to just up and disappear over night. Keep washing everynight and morning in the shower with anti-bacterial soap, and then putting some Iso Alco on them as well. You basically just dont want them to get infected. Its been a week and three so far have basically gone away but some of the others, the ones that were a little more difficult to un-top, are still there but not even as nearly as irritated as they once were. Just be restassured that they will eventually go away whether my medicine or just letting them be. Remember, from what i've heard in normal healthy people it can take up to 9 months for a full recovery. If you have to do anything sexually just be extremely careful and let your partner know. Not doing anything is the safest thing to not spread them of course. Let me know how it turns out.

How long did it take yours to clear up completely? My doctors just put me back on another week of aldera, athough it really did nothing the first time. I think i am going to ask my dermatologist about this tomorrow but am kinda embarrased to talk to him about a gynacological problem. After you "popped" yours did they swell up? cause mine have swollen and turned red since i popped them and a few have scabbed from the bleeding. Is this normal? Thanks.

Well I only said two seemed to be going away quickly. Its been just over a week and they are looking better each day. You know that there is a good chance they will leave a very small scar...the last one is hardly noticeable but only to me cuz i knew what was there. Well as far as I know, the swelling was totally normal for me. You poked into your own skin, even if you did that without the bumps that would happen and the scab is of course from the blood :) I say wait a good week and just compare them then to what they look like now.

Ok, well, I went to my dermatologist today and told him about them. He said a miracle solution is acne medicine like differin gel or retin A. He uses these on children. He also told me that he would freeze them off on the spot right there for free if I wanted and that they should go away in about 7 days. Well, since ive had these little buggers for about 4 months now I told him to go ahead. It was painful for about 30min... but we will see about the results. Has anyone had this done before?

yes it is prescribed. Differin gel is also by prescription. My advice to you is to go see a dermatologist. I dont know what kind of doctor you have seen before, but my gynocologist did nothing but prescribe aldera. My Dermatologist gave me about 50 samples of the differin gel for free. I would make an apt with a derm, tell him/her you have molloscum and see what they give you. I would also recommend a male derm, they get more to the point about this stuff. :)
