I was able to quit vicodin duing the holiday season for about a month. After the holiday season I became ill with the flu and my doctor prescribibed vicodin cough syrup. Well I thought that I could handle it and it helped my cough alot. Now I am back on vicodin and I am very discouraged. I have tried for the last month to try and stop taking it and have only been able to pull off one or two days without it.

I know what I have to do but I really hate the idea of going through the hell of the withdrawals.

Any suggestions? I did find that taking 800 mg of motrin did help to a great degree with the withdrawals.

How much are you taking, and for how long (pre-holidays)? Sounds like you already know the drill and what you need to do, but need to decide if it is worth it...it is.

I was taking two to three 5/500 a day for one year. I don't know how to measure the cough syrup. But I have been taking two teaspoons of Vic-tuss every six hours for two months. The cough was pretty nasty and I was usually able to convince my doctor to prescribe it. But I will admit I bounced around to a three different doctors to get it in the last couple of weeks.

Is the syrup harder to stop then the pills? I woke up this morning ate some toaste and took some motrin first thing this morning. For some reason the motrin does help me more then I think it helps some people.

Dog, your usage, compared to me and most here is hardly anything. I recommend you just do your withdrawal this weekend and be done with it. Just so you know, I was up to 30 7.5's per day, and you are taking prescribed levels. I've got to believe your third day would much better. Get off of it now, so you don't get to where I was. One withdrawal is plenty, believe me. Good luck, as you seem to recognize you could have a problem, but are willing to deal with it before it gets severe. Most of us could not do that.

ps: forgot to answer your question. I would think that hydrocodone in a suspension, while the same drug, is probably delivered faster in liquid form, but is not stronger. There are, now, some fairly good non-narcotic cough elixers that work pretty well. Ask the pharmacist.
