Hi all,
What a busy couple of weeks! I went to Chicago and did well on the trip. I walked slowly but was abe to do everything that I wanted to. I did not have any problems in the airport. I recommend a wheelchair. Some of the walks to the terminals can take a while.
I returned to work this week and have done very well. My foot has been swollen and sore and night but that is to be expected. Actually the pain that I have now is better than what it was before surgery. I am glad that tomorrow is Friday. I plan on sitting around with my foot elevated and catching up on HGTV and TLC over the weekend.
I return to the dr in two weeks. I am hoping to be out of the CAM walker. I am hopefully going to start p.t. at that point.
Hope all are doing well in their recoveries.

I am glad to hear that you had a good time in Chicago and were able to do all that you wanted to do. Also glad to hear that getting back to teaching is working our for you. However, I am curious, you mentioned PT, what type of PT? My Dr. has not mentioned PT at all.

Anyway, my foot get sore by the end of the days and is quite swollen, but it seems to be getting better each passing day. This weekend I am going to start pampering my foot with a nice soak followed by a foot massage. After my previous surgery I found that a massage helped with the soreness and swelling.

Take care and keep us updated! -Ellen

Ellen,
I am a big fan of the pampering. I have already had one pedicure. It was heaven. Scrubbing off the foot after having been in the cast was the best. As far as P.T. goes, the reason I have to go is because basically I have to learn to walk correctly. Because I had been having pain for so long, I compensated by walking on the outside of my foot. My dr. said that I have to learn to get back over the toe and not roll to the outside. She told me that it shouldn't be too long as long as I learn quickly.

P.S. That was great advice that you gave to Dennis regarding the fusion.

Well thanks Jennie.

I did start pampering my foot and it has helped and today .... I got my foot in a tennis shoe!!!! It was bigger than what I normally I wore, left over from my "brace" days. I wore it for a little bit and ran an errand, felt better than my surgical shoe. The toe was a little touchy getting out of the shoe (not at the fusion point but the end, where the nail is, I think it got a little bruised when the pins were pulled out), but it was not too bad. I think there is a light at the end of the tunnel.

I hope you are able to graduate out of the CAM walker soon and onto better shoewear! Take care! -Ellen
