I notice when I close my eyes I get more of a sense of movement even when still sitting in my recliner. Since I sleep in the recliner I also seem to get a bit aroused when I close my eyes which makes it hard to doze off.
Anyone else or know what this is

James, it's pefectly normal.
The balance system is made up of 3 components: vision, somatosensation (feed back from muscles and limbs), vestibular inputs (from the inner ear). If any of these becomes dysfunctional then you begin to rely on the other two systems more. This means that you will be using your vision to maintain balance.
Also, if your ear is giving off faulty signals then your brain will be using signals from your vision to correct (and suppress) the faulty ear signals. So by shutting your eyes you are turning that supression process off - hence you feel lousy. As you improve your brain will adjust so to the faulty signals and will not need the visual cues to maintain equilibriam and suppress the dizzy sensations.
When my vertigo was (or sometimes is) at it's worst, and I close my eyes I feel like I'm doing forward sommersalts (sp??).

Hi James, yes Billy is right. Our brain uses our sight more now to maintain our balance. SOOOO when we close our eyes, we are taking that away. Our poor brains are going "HEY--WHATS going here!" I thank God that I am having times of being able to sleep without being out in the ocean on a very turbulant sea! But, I have gone to sleep hanging onto the pillow for dear life. Hang in there. Prayers, Belle

Yep I second all of the above, closing my eyes is bad as is the dark...dark pubs etc etc. Went in a cathedral today and it was a vestibular nightmare it was so dark!
I find a weird thing - If i close my eyes and scrunch them if you get my drift, my balance is TERRIBLE! xxx
