View Full Version : A question about caregiving in Florida?

Hello all, I have a friend who resides in Florida.

Her father had a stroke in January and has been in a nursing home receiving physical therapy. He is also hearing impaired.

Her father wants to come home very badly! He's been working very hard to accomplish this. It's very sad :( She is basically bringing him home against the better judgment of his Doctors.

She is worried about her financial situation. She will be unable to work and take care of him. His SSI is $932.00 a month.

From what I understand Florida offers no help to caregivers!

I told her, I was sure she could get food stamps to help her financially. She's afraid she won't be eligible because she's taking him out of the nursing home against the DR's best judgment.

Any information or input will be deeply appreciated!

I live in Florida and am caregiver to my disabled son and my aunt, also in FL is caregiver to my grandfather. Neither of us are given any help by the state. My aunt, cousin and grandfather live off of his retirement and SSI income. My husband makes too much money to qualify for any assistance, but we still need it.
