After 3 months and 1 week post op double bunionectomy, I am happy to report that I can walk straight down the stairs barefoot without having to turn sideways going down. This is a big accomplishment, as before my toes just didn't allow that flexibility.
I am able to walk longer distances now without my feet bothering me so much, but still not as long as I thought I would be able to at this point.
I'm still in tennis shoes/barefeet because strappy sandals rub the sensitive scar tissue and doesn't feel good.
This is such a long recovery process but I do see improvements as time goes by. Now if those scars would just stop being so sensitive...maybe I should massage it more???? Any ideas would be appreciated!

I massage/rub the scar on my foot 4 or 5 times a day. It seems to be less sensitive for a time after rubbing it for a while.
I am at the 7 week point and just starting to walk in a shoe part time so I know what a little progress here and there feels like. I was just plain ecstatic to be off those dang crutches, it is hard to describe. At 6 weeks it started to seem like I would never be able walk without them again:)

I am at 4 months & the incision wound has just closed up (long story, involving more digging by the doctor), so I am just now to the point where I can stand to massage it a little. I think that does desensitize the scar area; also I continue to soak it in warm water and Epsom salts. Like you, I can't stand a shoe touching my bare scar. Have to cover it with a bandage & wear a sock. Now if that doesn't look bad with sandals, I don't know what does! By the way, my doc says cover your scar in the sun or it will get all discolored.
