 PLEASE CAN SOMEONE TELL ME, I HAVE A KNOT UNDER MY RIGHT ARM, IT HAS BEEN GROWING FOR THE PAST 2 MONTHS, MY DR. CHECKED IT A SCHEDULED ME FOR AN BIOPSY, IN WHICH I NEVER ATTENDED (SCARED) HE SAID IT COULD BE A TUMOR OR AN SIS/BOIL, MY QUESTION IS DOES TUMORS HURT, THIS KNOT IS STARTING TO HURT , NOT REAL BAD JUST ENOUGH TO NOTICE THAT THE KNOT IS THERE.

ANY INFORMATION ON THIS MATTER WILL BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.

THANK YOU IN ADVANCE, BILLIEJEAN

I had the same thing years ago and it was just a cyst. He lanced it and it never came back again. Yes, a tumor can hurt, so can a cyst or a boil. It's natural to think the worst when something comes up like this. The odds are in your favor it's nothing serious. The sooner you get in and get it taking care of the better you will feel.

Hi BillieJean
Us women are a bit prone to cysts & boils in our armpits, due to infected hair follicles from shaving. I had a huge cyst once & had to get it lanced  The relief afterwards however, was enormous!

There's also lymph nodes in our armpits which can enlarge & sometimes not reduce again. My dermatologist found a lump under my arm during a routine 3 monthly post melanoma examination. Thankfully, after having two large lymph nodes removed, they were found not to be malignant.

As Rick says, the odds are in your favour & it's very likely you'll be kicking yourself for worrying so much over something that turns out to be fine. You really need to get it checked out though because there's no way of knowing what it is until a doctor does the biopsy or removes it.

Good luck & let us know how you get on.

Lidia :)

billiejean:

I have never had a lump as you described but as someone told me on this board: do not question the compentency of your doctor. i don't mean not to get a second opinion or go to a specialist. What i mean is that if your doc said to get a biop then either get one or get a second professional opinion. although the lump may be nothing serious it also may be and you should have it checked. it sounds like it is not life threatening but your doctor needs to be sure as do you. please have it bioped as your doctor wants or get a second opinion. I hope every thing is ok and it probably will be. Good luck and let us know how it goes.
