Hi, I'm Type 1 diabetic, and 31 years old. I had cataract surgery on Wednesday, and I'm very worried about my vision. I now have a small blind spot on my peripheral vision, and I see 2-3 thin, clear horizontal lines in my eye (they sort of look like cat whiskers) when I'm watching TV at night, even though I watch in very well-lit areas.

Has anyone else out there experienced this after cataract surgery? I have a very bad feeling about this whole thing. I'm regretting having this surgery at all. My vision was not that bad, I only decided to do the surgery now because I'm starting nursing school in June, and I thought it'd be better to just get it out of the way now. I'm so scared--what if my eye stays like this forever? I can't bear to live with my eyes like this for the rest of my life, and I won't be able to be a nurse if it doesn't improve.

Also, I've had a headache for 2 days, and today I noticed that I have a bit of a cough that comes and goes. And last night my stomach hurt for about an hour, but today it's fine.

I called my doctor, but he sounded like I was wasting his time, and just told me he'd see me at my 1-week follow-up appointment.

Please if anyone has had this surgery and experienced these symptoms, please let me know! I'm very scared.

Thanks.

Yeesh I hate it when doctors seem to just shrug off their patients concerns.

I had a surgery that was considered a form of cataract surgery but I was an infant...so I have no clue what I experienced.

My neighbor just had hers done last month and she said by the day after her surgery she saw better than she had in years with absolutely no complications.

So I guess my suggestion is to just call your doctor up again and express that you are very concerned. If he still dismisses it I'd consider seeing a different doctor in the future.

Good luck.

  I am diabetic also. I just had eye surgery for retinopathy. It was something with the blood vessels leaking. I was told to put a warm, clean wash cloth over my eye to relieve any pain. Of course, I also had a slight headache for a day too. But i think that's because I saw the dr coming at me with the needle, he did not put to sleep. :D :D
