View Full Version : Like A Stroke ??

I am wondering if healing from BPPV and 30 to 50% damage is like recovery from a stroke. My mother had several before she passed and she would be very disabled and then in a few hours she would improve in an area.

The doctors said the brain works on a threshold principle - symptoms can be very intense or disabling right up until the switch is flipped and then they are gone or much less.

I am seeing no progress (in fact regression into more suffering now) and I wonder if things can be very messed up and then all or part clears.

With normal tissue healing it is gradual and progressive. If the pain is a 10 the damage is a 10, symptom intensity equals time remaining to heal.

I saw my mother unable to speak, walk and near death from a major stroke. This went on for about two weeks. One morning she was sitting up in bed wanting food and a newspaper. She still had much recovery to do but it was evident that her intense symptoms had switched in a few hours.

Hi Rik, ive been waiting for that switch to happen for quite some time! But hope it will..My ENt actually said that learning to balance again and to compensate was v similar to stroke patients so you are right in that sense. It's all to do with "teaching the brain" all over again. Keep smiling, you'll get there xxx
